The 92 Days of Spring Challenge

I will be the first to admit I have been in a funk most of the winter. Usually, once New Year's hits I can get myself on roll and stay focused through the dreary months. But this winter... I just couldn't get into it. I couldn't find my drive. I even challenged a 25 year old male co-worker for a weight loss challenge hoping it would motivate me (which by the way, was an epic FAIL). Part of the problem was adjusting to my new gym... another problem was the emotional baggage that came with my dad having a massive stroke. BUT, I am not here bore you with my millions of excuses of why I didn't hit my goals... That is not what this blog is about. And honestly, I don't want to remind myself of all the reasons...it will just add more fuel to the excuse fire.

But now, it is finally Spring! Ahhhh... Spring :) I love this season! Spring is about renewal and new life. I am ready to shed that winter coat and blossom!

Spring officially started yesterday and will last for the next 92 days. Sounds like a perfect time to start a new challenge for myself! I would love to start the first day of summer off rocking a smaller shorts size, or with amazing arms in a cute little tank top, or even strutting a bikini around at the pool! My SMART goal for the end of spring is to be at 26% body fat. I am not going to focus on the scale for this challenge... because the scale always dissapoints me. I am currently between 30%-31% according to my new body fat monitor.

How am I going to do it?

Exercise- Getting my exercise is usually not my problem. I am still struggling a little bit with the new gym, but I think I am now getting past those excuses. On weekdays I need to work out in the mornings before work. I do not have time in the evenings to work out and I need to quit telling myself I will do it later. Get up. Get it Done.

Diet - I once read that 80% of the results you are going to see is from diet. Sigh. This is definately my downfall. The sugar-monster is back with a vegance. I know ,from past experience, that if I try to dive straight in and clean up my diet - I will fail. I am going to take baby steps to get myself back to clean eating. This week I am working on getting my water in.

Lifestyle - Be more active in general. If I have a free evening - do not spend it in front of the TV! It is spring: Go for a walk, take the girls skating... do SOMETHING, ANYTHING!

Day 1:

Yesterday I woke up at 5am and went to spinning class at my gym. Loved it and felt great most of the day. I crashed in the afternoon and ended up drinking a diet coke which was followed by 3 fun sized Milky Ways... My water intake was good, although I probably should have had an extra glass when I crashed instead of the Diet Coke. All in all... I think day 1 was a success!

    Been there too this winter. I got a mood light and that helped a little. Motivation can seriously go down the tubes when the time changes until it changes back without help! So maybe try that next winter.

    I have been back at it for a few weeks now strong and steady. I have been wondering where you've been because you were so quiet. I get it though - I have those periods myself!

    We have a Biggest Loser thing going on at work and that is helping motivate me, plus I am determined to take my kids to the pool w/out looking like a plus size hoochie mamma at the pool! :-)

    I bought some new workout t's to help motivate me! My son is starting track and I am hoping to go jogging with him!

    ITS SO AWESOME you got up at 5 for spinning! I am so proud of you. I know how hard it is for you - me too!!!! Great job - keep it up! I would do better w/diet if I could just give up food, like alcoholics do, but instead lately I have been cutting out the sugar because it actually can alter your brain to crave more I read somewhere, so I am avoiding it like the plague and its helping little by little. Hope to log another weight drop in a day or two!

    Sounds like you are well on your way to getting "fit" by summer!!

    Starting with one thing at a time is the BEST way to make it a routine - and easier to add one routine at a time rather than try to get a bunch of them started and continuing all at the same time!!

    Sorry your "challenge" with the 25 YO didn't work out! I have a 25 YO son who I joined Weight Watchers with over a year ago... HE has lost 81#... I on the other hand lost 15 and then gained most of it BACK!!! I am so happy for him and proud OF him - but see myself as a failure! :-(

    I re-started my "plan" yesterday as well - so I am with you on the 92 days of spring!!

    I too had decided not to let the scale get to me... I know I am doing better - feeling better - and toning up (a little) so the scale is not my only measure of success (or failure).

    Continue to drink your water this week - I am at 44 oz so far today - with another 20 lined up for after lunch!
