what do you envision

Exercise can be monotonous. You jump on the treadmill, the elliptical or the bike and you feel like a gerbil on a wheel just going around and around and around. It is exercise, but what do you think about as you go around? Do you have any goals? Are you thinking about the laundry at home that needs to be done or where you have to taxi the kids to? What do you think about when you are in the zone.
I was giving this some thought tonight on the Adjustable Motion Trainer. I love love love this machine because you can do short movements like climbing stairs or you can work on the length of your stride while running. The best part of this machine is that there is no impact. I want to lose the magical number 30 before I start hitting the pavement. I do not want to get plantar fasciitis again! No thank you.
I decide to do interval training. I run for 2 minutes as long a stride and as fast as I can. As I am doing this I am shutting my eyes and envisioning the 5k in the tri. I can remember the course. The last mile of the course goes up a hill and then you run a long path beside the lake and the water spillway for it. It is a narrow bridge like walk way. So I push myself as fast as I can for 2 minutes. In my mind I take the left and go next to the lake that we entered for the swim and go through the little grove. My best friend Maura is there with her Mom and daughter cheering me on. My daughter Lissy jumps in and starts running with me. I High five my husband and my friend Kelly and brother Rich are there. I am sprinting.
Active recovery for 2 minutes, repeat the thought process. I am not just a gerbil on a wheel, I am a triathlete! I am pumped and I am pushing. I was in my zone.
There are times when I work out that I am not in my zone and my work outs are less intense. When I am in my zone, watch out world.
So the question is what do you think of while you are working out? What do you envision? I am envisioning finishing the tri in September and feeling so much healthier than I have in the past year!
