I'm breaking up with my goal clothes

Friday, May 13, 2011

Here's the thing - I have A LOT of goal clothes - lots of jeans I haven't worn since high school (my 20 year reunion was last year) and clothes that I have bought over the years that didn't fit right or that I was just shy of fitting into.

I've come to realize a few things:

* many of these goal shirts were never meant to fit my body - some of them are sizes that I should have been able to wear when I was closer to 280 - they are sized funny - why would I want to wear a 22/24 that still shows every roll even though I'm closer to an 18 now

* these jeans I'm holding on to are a style that are better suited to the era in which I bought them

* I deserve to buy myself a few items that look great, fit great, and are something that I would choose now

The minimalist in me finally had a meeting with the part of me that is organizing my life for a potential move and they both agree enough is enough.

I'm keeping one shirt that is very pretty (although wrong sized, because it is a 18/20 and fits very tightly) and the rest is already bagged up and in my trunk ready to go to Goodwill.

Besides, why keep a closet full of clothes that have been staring at me (taunting me) upwards of 20 years now when I can choose from thousands upon thousands of clothes in the store when the time is right.

You totally deserve better than outdated clothing that doesn't fit well. I can't think of a better reward for your hard work than something you want to wear.

Holding on to that stuff and wearing it as you lose weight probably feels more like a punishment than a reward.

This is so true! I used to squeeze myself into whatever fit when I was heavier. Now that I've got more of a shape to me, I find some things are my size but don't do a thing for my shape. You've got to flaunt your assets and disguise your problem areas, right? I'm sitting here in a top that fits like a potato sack but I keep holding on to things like this because I don't want to keep re-buying as my size goes down.
    Best of luck!

I AGREE!!! I think i may just do the same thing this weekend!!

I have things that I have kept for "years" thinking "someday"! However - WHEN the time comes I CAN fit into them, I will deserve something new! Besides SOME of what I have will STILL not be flattering on me when I can fit into them, ie: tight - short skirts, and straight legged jeans from the 70's!

I also think YOU deserve a few things NOW - not waiting for you to reach goal - make yourself look and feel good by getting a few things now!

    Congratulations - and thanks!!
