I'm breaking up with my goal clothes
Friday, May 13, 2011
Here's the thing - I have A LOT of goal clothes - lots of jeans I haven't worn since high school (my 20 year reunion was last year) and clothes that I have bought over the years that didn't fit right or that I was just shy of fitting into.
I've come to realize a few things:
* many of these goal shirts were never meant to fit my body - some of them are sizes that I should have been able to wear when I was closer to 280 - they are sized funny - why would I want to wear a 22/24 that still shows every roll even though I'm closer to an 18 now
* these jeans I'm holding on to are a style that are better suited to the era in which I bought them
* I deserve to buy myself a few items that look great, fit great, and are something that I would choose now
The minimalist in me finally had a meeting with the part of me that is organizing my life for a potential move and they both agree enough is enough.
I'm keeping one shirt that is very pretty (although wrong sized, because it is a 18/20 and fits very tightly) and the rest is already bagged up and in my trunk ready to go to Goodwill.
Besides, why keep a closet full of clothes that have been staring at me (taunting me) upwards of 20 years now when I can choose from thousands upon thousands of clothes in the store when the time is right.
