Letting go of work stress
Tuesday, June 14, 2011
Sometimes my job can feel too stressful. Note that I said 'can feel too stressful.' I used those words instead of saying 'is too stressful' because I know that stress isn't in the job; it's in me. Really, it's in how I react to things and what kind of pressure I put on myself.
Sometimes I get a little perfectionistic. (Is that a word?) Anyway, I get obsessed with doing as much as possible in as little time as possible, and I get very upset if I make a mistake. That sound like perfectionism, eh?
But when I step back and really ask myself what I want out of life, the answer is clear: I want to live authentically, be true to myself, grow into a kinder person, experience real joy, genuinely connect with others and help make the world a better place. And the weird thing is, I can do those things anywhere, even at work!
So when I am confronted by another tight deadline or complaining colleague, I am now taking a deep breath and reminding myself: here is another opportunity for growth! Yay!
Also, many thanks to team leader MOMOF6BOYS, who sent out a great link to a video about how to do core excercises in an office chair. I will definitely try these when I go back in to work today!
