My mantra to my girls..... "The only thing you should strive to achieve in life is HAPPINESS". Many of my friends do not agree. They think that that would lead to people who are essentially stepping on other people to get what they want. But truly, when has that ever made anybody happy? Truly happy. I compare it to doing something good for someone. Something selfless for someone, who is not in a position to give us anything in return but a thank you. Doesn't that make you happier than weaseling your way to success and knowing how many people you have just stepped on and wronged? I think that people are meant to be happy, and they just forget how to get there. After years of living it for my girls, and talking to them about it, I am very pleased to be able to list the things that seem to give them true happiness.....
- standing up to bullies for the weaker class mates
- taking nature photographs
- listening to music
- spending time with their parents (yeah, really)
- being able to have a meaningful conversation with a grown up
- spreading the word about positive attitude
- training our dogs
I think we are living proof, that the search for happiness has to happen within, and it is possible, if we just stop for a while and really listen to what makes us happy. It is an ongoing process, and many times we are not quite so overjoyed with life. But getting back to the root and working towards that goal is really worth it. I hope every single person has their happy moment today, and is able to hang on to it and make it stick around for a while.
