What would you do??!!

Sunday, June 26, 2011

First off want to thank all of you for cheering me on in my 5K Saturday!! The race started at 9:00 at a bike trail about 30 minutes from me! Met up with my brother and SIL. A good friend of mine who I introduced to running just last year was running as well! Not too big of a race but for a great cause~Organ Donations. The girl who organized the event had a heart transplant 3 years ago and is doing well! She decided to do this annual event to raise money for patients and families. Lots of family members were there too! Everyone lined up for the race with the faster ones in front! I was toward the back with some others and walkers behind me! One little guy was riding his bike with his number taped to the front, he thought he was pretty cool!! The morning was cool, 50's so no heat to contend with! I felt good out to the halfway turn around only stopped for a quick walk break once! After checking my watch I realized with the pace I was keeping I could possibly beat my goal I silently made to myself~under 40:00! I know it may not sound like a goal to fast runners but to me Wow that would be amazing!! Well I was to the last mile and the little boy on his bike decided I was the one to beat! He passed me and proceeded to wipe out right next to me, down he went! He was more surprised than hurt but did get some gravel in his arm and leg! Well what kicked in was my mother instinct and out the window went the runner!! Stopped picked up the bike and helped him up! His Mom came up behind me and thanked me and said you better get going! I crossed the finish in 40:57, thinking to myself how close that 40:00 was! But I know now that I can do it maybe even next race! did not place but was able to enjoy the awards with my brother who got 2nd in his age , first medal ever! My SIL and good friend also got 2nd in their ages as well! What a race that I won't foget!

    You did emoticon !

Plus you also stopped & helped the little guy when nobody else did and I'm sure he was glad for that! You'll smoke those 57 seconds & then some next time!

    Keep on running!

What a great cause to run for! I'll have to check to see if we have any local events like that. My cousin received a kidney transplant a little over a year ago & I promote the donate life cause whenever I can by wearing my "donate life" tshirt.

You did some great deeds that day that made your heart & God happy!

You definitely could have finished under 40 minutes, but sometimes there are just more important things! I'm glad the little guy wasn't beat up too badly. What a great cause to run for!! I hope it was a success!!

Do you know when your next race will be??

Congrats on doing such a great job running!

emoticon Congrats on finishing with a great time! I think stopping to help a little guy is way more rewarding than getting a medal.

And you get a medal for being a good samaritan! What a kind unselfish thing you did!! You easily would have beat that 40 mark if you had just kept on going and not helped that little boy. Kudos to you for taking the time to help him out. There will be other races and you will definitely get that 40 or lower!!
