Climbing the Sledding Hill
Tuesday, June 28, 2011
My husband and boys have the nearby sledding hill to train for their recent backpacking trip. They loaded their packs with weight, went and climbed up and down that hill for about 90 minutes, several times over the course of their training.
I asked my son to take me there to try it out this morning. We had wasted time all morning, so by the time we got there, we only had about 20 minutes for a workout. In that short time, I climbed it 6 times! I even laughed out loud when my son got to the top and rolled all the way down- remember doing stuff like that as a kid?!
Here is what I gained from my climb:
~I am really out of shape- but 6 times up is the lowest the bar will go!
~It is fun to laugh out loud and let my son see me try something that wasn't easy. (We did have a "no laughing at Mom rule" before we agreed to go!
~I would never, ever have stopped, run down only to start over when I was 1/2 way up....WHY IN TARNATIONS, then, do I do that with my weight loss efforts?!! The metaphor makes me annoyed with this crazy habit I have of getting going, sliding down and WONDERING WHY I get bummed about starting over!! (sorry for the tangent!)
~it really is the little things- we squeezed out exercise and fun in 20 short minutes!
~it feels good to blog about something I ACTUALLY DID...not blogging about the pros, cons and struggles of something I want to do!
I did it...and it feels good! Now, I need to do it again!
