I'm in need of guidance.

Thursday, June 30, 2011

When I joined the spark I thought this was a piece of cake. I had previously belong to weight watchers but it was expensive. Needless to say I read many things on the Spark People. Joined numerous teams. Tried challenges. Only to be left feeling that I have gone no where and am spinning my wheels. I have decided that I need to ask my friends and team mates to help me. Help me go over setting up my guidelines. How much food should I be eating. What should my caloric intake be know that I can not workout all the time or do lots of activities as my phyiscal health continues to get worst. How do I get rid of the hopeless feelings that I have. I just feel that I can not read something comprehend it all and put it into action.
I hope everybody else is having a blessed day!

You don't have to do A LOT of excerise, when you go to reset your page, please knock the excerise down to a reasonable amount for you. If it's only 3 times a week for 15 mins a day, just be honest with your page. The calories it will allow you will reflect that. It'll all even out.

Please don't be overwhelmed, we are all here for you and with you. Your a spirited Under Dog, and I am not sure if you reaconize how many of your team mates have already responded here, but so far out of your 5 responses, 3 of those have been your team mates. See, that's real caring. I hope you do rejoin us, and when you see the emails to do what you can do for excerises and LTGL , remember many of the ones I put say rewards and Kudo's to those who are even doing even 30 mins a day, it ALSo goes to those doing their BEST at less, and less means means even 10 mins. As long as your steady (and steady means, your working at a goal and not giving up) your as good as gold. So please, please, please do not be discouraged. All of us had to start at the beginning. I had send out an email at the beginning of the challenge which had stated that, and it's so true. I myself started off so slow I thought it was ridiclous, but in time I was able to increase it. It'll probably again drop down due to my own physical limits and hey, that's Ok for the both of us. Just rememeber we CARE about ALL of our Dawgs.

If you need to stop excerising for awhile to take care of your health, write in the team challenge "My excerise: 0 (due to health) And that'll be fine :) and still report your LTGL challenge part, which we will love. So I HOPE you have rejoined us for the Summer challenge, where you can thus work on just being healthy. :)

Totally agree with SPADIVAMOM. If you don't have the smart phone and cell phone, consider spending just a couple of dollars and purchasing a small notebook to use as a food diary. Use this to track everything (and I do mean everything-this one is tough) you eat for a couple of days. Use your food tracker to see how many calories you have consumed. Do this for a couple of days. Then sit down and plan your meals - even if it's only one day at a time.

Another thing you might do is restart SparkPeople with Stage #1. Here is the link:

    p
Simply cut and paste it in the address bar.

Remember that you didn't put the weight on in a day and it won't come off in a day. Take things slowly. The hare may have been quick at the start, but it was the turtle won the day.
    Hope this helps.

I agree with SPADIVAMOM, you sound like you are overwhelmed. For me making changes works better 1 or 2 at a time or I get overwhelmed and feel like I can't do this. So where do you want to start? It is ok to start small. There is even a group dedicated to baby steps. You might like it. It is called Baby Step Spark People, I will send you a link.

Are you trying low carb? I saw the group on your page. There are quite a few low carb teams. I am not an expert but there are many people that know a lot about this. There also books on low carb diets. Maybe your library has some you could look at.

Please don't give up on yourself. I think most everyone here has at one time felt the way you do. You can do this... it will take time and patience (with yourself). You are worth the effort!

    Hi
For basics, why don't you try, over the weekend, eating something easy like
1/4 cup of oats added to 1 cup of water, with 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, artificial sweetener packet, or 1 teaspoon of sugar or honey or black strap molasses. If you have flaxseed or flaxseed meal, add a tablespoon of that, put in a soup cup and microwave 2- 1/2 minutes. You can add 1-2T almond butter or peanut butter, to it for protein or you can have an egg following it.

Lunch 3-5 oz protein (red meat/poultry/fish/ or 1/2 c beans or a few egg whites.+ serving of fruit and vegetables to fill the other half of small plate (1/2 cup of cooked greens, or 1 cup of raw green=a serving like spinach, kale, brocolli, collard greens, green beans, etc) corn, peas and potatoes, should be counted as grain, and eaten with evening meal, if your going to eat them, they are considered the starchy vegetables, add dairy if you eat dairy (yogurt 4-6 ounces, milk 4 oz, cottage cheese 1/2 cup)
Dinner is same as Lunch, just different choices.

pasta like spaghetti 1/2 is a serving
    macaroni "
    rice 1/3 cup cooked

If your use to having a snack in the evening, one slice of whole grain bread with 1-2 oz protein.
celery sticks, with almond or peanut butter
    orange with 6-8 walnut halves.

Hope these ideas get you started.

You need to sit down and make two goals for today. I have a feeling you are trying to do everything all at once. I have those days you are describing and I think that as moms we are used to being in that mode.

Have you used spark people to set your weight goal and exercise plans? It will tell you how many calories you should be eating. I can't always stick to my exercise goals but I try my best.

Have you adjusted your nutrition to include low sodium? Avoiding processed meats, salty snacks, etc... Sodium is just about in everything. I have meniere's disease and have horrible veritigo attacks just like you. I know that when I OD on salty things (i.e. when I am off my healty eating plan) I have the attacks. Yesterday was a bad one, just like you said, felt I was drunk. Got out of my car and almost fell over. My mom has Meniere's also and it is an inner ear thing. Took both of us a while to be diagnosed, CT scans and lots of tests. I take maxide -25 mg per day and that helps reduce the attacks to one or two per year instead of one or two per week I was having before. Please call your physician and get tested for your vertigo. It can be a more serious symptom.

Do you have smart phone or iphone? Tracking for me is much easier on my iphone. I am on my computer all day at work so the last thing I want to do on the weekends is be on the computer tracking.

You sound very frustrated with things. I just wanted to reach out and give you the support you need!! You can do it!! There is a reason you joined SparkPeople and there is a plan. There will be bumps, u-turns, obstacles and flash floods along this journey however each day is a new day and chance to start fresh. Remember you can't have the beautiful flowers without a little bit of rain!
