Thank you, Spark People!

Here's a message that I wrote today in response to one of Spark Guy's Blogs:

I want you to know that I am so grateful for all of the support that you, your team, and all the lovely people here at Spark People have given me over the past two months.

My story:
I am a 60-year-old lady. Both my husband and my mother never made it to see their 60th birthday. I spent the past five years in fear that I would follow their 'lead', so to speak. The fear was palpable - resulting in higher than normal blood pressure readings and a up and down healthy diet.

Two months before my 60th birthday I joined Spark People. I figured that if I wanted to live, I needed to live healthy - and be an example to my children and grandchildren.

It's taken me a lot of stops and starts to create a healthy diet. Some days I miss the mark, but I examine what I've eaten and make the adjustment for the next day.

And exercise! Oh my! After so many years of being absolutely paralyzed with fear that I'd suffer a heart attack if I pushed myself, I now mark with joy every single minute that I've moved my body, even if it's just for 10 minutes!

All in all, my BP numbers are down, my healthy eating habits are going strong, my body feels at least 15 years younger, and ...

I am no longer AFRAID!

Thank you so much. I can't say that enough. Spark People has given me back a life!"

I wanted to make this my Blog for today because I need to see this right in front of my face all the time.

It is my wish that other members who may also be afraid, for whatever reason, understand that they are not alone. You CAN look that fear in the face and banish it!

Great blog! My dad died after his third heart attack at age 56; before the availability of stents, and CABGs. I, too, worried about having a heart attack, but never considered my risk factors included obesity and lack of exercise. I am very thankful to Spark People for their program.

My dad passed away at 54 and my mother at 60 but us siblings? My sisters are 95, 88, 81 and I'm 76 next month! One sister passed away this winter at 92 ... so none of us inherited our parent's short life gene!
It's great that you're making sure you are healthy! You rock girl!
