The Middle of the Summer Blues.....

Sunday, July 17, 2011

I believe that is what my oldest has been diagnosed with officially by his Mom....

We are right smack dab in the middle of Summer....and he is BORED....now that he doesn't have baseball everyday....

However, for me it is a little frustrating that he is like this.....we went the the pool 4 days last week, trail riding 2, and he had a sleep over and attended a sleep over....it's just not good enough. Had lunch out quite a few days (not good for me - good for them)....That is coupled with 4 baseball games for him and 4 for little dude....how can it be boring....

Did I mention he sleeps until 10-10:30 most days too......

So to hear him complain that Summer stinks....STINKS! I have a good mind to just shut down this week and really make it boring - but I might kill myself..... UGH. Teenagers.....

The good news is I got a 3.1 mile run in yesterday - and I didn't walk at all.....ran a constant pace, and just kept plugging along. I will still use Galloway for longer runs...but now- I can run for 3.1 miles without stopping... YEAH.

I almost have my miles in for the month too....I have about 23 to go....and 2 weeks.....

Hope everyone is enjoying the dog days of Summer.....

Congrats on the run! That's awesome!! I agree with what another sparker said - give your son some chores to do and maybe he'll miraculously be less bored emoticon

Today's youth think they need constant entertainment. I think sometimes their brains need some downtime & it's ok for them to be bored. Your kids are not hurting for social interaction so don't feel guilty about it. Know that you are actually doing something for him by making him have some alone time. Gives him some time to make friends with himself.
Seth has stopped telling me he is bored this summer because everytime he did I gave him a job to do.

I always gave mine chores or had them practice the piano when they complained of boredom! Actually, a little boredom is part of the fun of summer vacation and someday they'll miss it!

My oldest (10) is all bored too! If it were up to her we'd be on the road doing something all of the time! There is plenty to do but she just gets bored so easily & has a hard time entertaining herself. My youngest can entertain herself for hours if you let her. Kids!

Having some down time is good for them too. Whether they like to believe that or not!

    Have a great day!

Yes, our summer is mercifully almost over (we have a modified year round schedule). I think we could all use a little time away from each other! Our running paths sound similar. I used Galloway intervals for a half marathon but now am able to run 3-4 miles straight. I know I would not be here without the intervals though! Good luck on your running and the rest of summer.

Good job with the running! Keep it up!

As for bored teenagers, I had a solution that worked every time with ours. Whenever someone said they were bored, they were handed a toilet brush and bathroom cleaner. They didn't stay they were bored much after the first time of cleaning the bathroom.

I totally get what you mean - my 9 year old - going onto 16 is bored - she plays soccer, baseball, has had sleepovers, playdates, came back from Italy, has a pool to jump into anytime and what does she do....attitude!!!! Uggghhhh!! I so understand what you mean. Not too much physical exercise for me this week but getting into the mindset (now that I am a bit more rested)...I will get there!

Good for you re: 3.1 mile run!! Yeah for you.. That is great and keep it up!!! Have a wonderful Sunday.
