LOVELY & UNLIMITED: A Tribute to Ms. Brenda Palmer (7/27/48-7/27/11)

Thursday, July 28, 2011

This blog is a tribute to the memory and legacy of my LOVELY and UNLIMITED Friend, "Mom" and Jewelry Designer Extraordinaire Ms. Brenda Palmer....mere words are unable to describe this remarkable Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt & Friend.

I am so thankful that God allowed our paths to cross last Spring at a jewelry party showcasing the handmade one-of-a-kind pieces that she and Jen, her daughter/my new baby sister had designed. In my opinion, jewelry made us friends, but love made us family because there was an instant bond and connection with both of these women.

Ms. Brenda was so beautiful, energetic, creative, athletic, youthful, health-conscious, warm-spirited and just an all around LOVELY person. So of course, I was in disbelief when Pancreatic Cancer had the audacity to knock on her door in early-December of last year.

As hard as Cancer tried to limit Ms. Brenda's spirit...it just never stood a chance! During her treatments I marveled at her unique fashion, unwavering fight and UNLIMITED FAITH.

She was always hopeful, always spirited, always positive, always beautiful...always LOVELY. Ms. Brenda made it a point to show up for her chemotherapy treatments with make-up and accessories, because she didn't want to "look like a cancer patient." **LOVE IT**

There are so many fabulous memories that I have of Ms. Brenda, but there is one "Philippians 4:8 Memory" that stands out, and that comes to mind often whenever I feel discouraged and/or feel like having a self-pity party...

One late afternoon when Jen was wrapping up her workday she received a call from Ms. Brenda. In a calm/matter-of-fact tone Ms. Brenda asked Jen if she could stop by on the way home? When Jen arrived, her Mom was making one of the signature designs from their Timeline Treasures Jewelry Line... an Edgy Couture. She had received the results of her CT scan which reported that the Cancer had spread to her liver, lungs and stomach!

On Jen's way home she called me to share this disheartening news...to say that we were floored would be an understatement, because we just knew that the Cancer was gone.

It took me a while to hear/understand/comprehend what she was saying...I was in complete and utter shock. Yes, I was taken aback by the report of the CT Scan, BUT did she really say that Ms. Brenda was making jewelry after receiving that kind of report????

While Jen continued to talk to me, I believe I had an Ally McBeal Moment, because I found myself talking to myself!

SELF: "Mmm...soooo life just handed Ms. Brenda a "lemon" and she turned it into 'LOVELY Lemonade'???"
SELF: "Yep, pretty much!"
SELF: "Yep, that's what she said..."
SELF: "Can you imagine the fashion, fight and faith that Ms. Brenda has crafted into that necklace?!"
SELF: "I can only imagine!"

At that moment, I didn't care about the price, if it had matching earrings, the color combination, whether it was too long or short...I knew I had to have that LOVELY PIECE that represented Ms. Brenda's UNLIMITED PEACE!

Several weeks before Ms. Brenda passed she told me that she had given the necklace to Jen to give to me, but it was not for sale (end of discussion...please keep in mind that she was a fighter...LOL!), that it was a gift...my Christmas gift as a matter of fact. WOW!

Well, yesterday (7-27-11) on her 63rd Birthday Ms. Brenda received the best gift ever...the gift of eternal life as she was made whole and called home. And it was on her birthday that I received my LOVELY & UNLIMITED Christmas Gift (pictured below) that holds an oh so special place in my heart!

This necklace is so remarkably special, because it was made by a remarkably special woman and it will forever remind me that no matter what life hands me on this journey, to keep moving ON TO THE NEXT ONE and meditate on what is LOVELY!

Ms. Brenda will be missed, but her legacy lives on...and I am confident that she is in Heaven rejoicing and accessorizing all of the Angels' wings! ;-)

"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things [are] noble, whatever things [are] just, whatever things [are] pure, whatever things [are] LOVELY, whatever things [are] of good report, if [there is] any virtue and if [there is] anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things." ~Philippians 4:8 NKJV

Thank you soror for that lovely tribute to a remarkable woman.

It is funny that God should bring me to this blog today. This was my memory scripture that I recited at our Bible Study Group last night. Philippians 4:8 holds a special place in my heart because it shows that whatever life throws our way, we must FIGHT to be reflect on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely and admirable. Truly, darkness has no place in our life with the right mindset.

Ms. Brenda understood that to her very CORE and embodied that in her LIFE! RIP lovely lady. emoticon emoticon

wow I am sorry. I have had to make lemon aid plenty of time. Not because of cancer but other health matters. I like her attitude did not want to look sick. Amen! She went to glory and before she went she knocked the devil upside his head by having a warrior attitude. Soon I will remember a dear friend who went to glory a year ago this upcoming month. May God strengthen us!!!
