Training for a 5K
Sunday, August 14, 2011
Tough week - glad to start fresh. Beginning August 25, I am training to complete a 5K. My employer has a training program with 4 different levels: walker, beginner, Intermediate, and advanced. It is an 8 week training program with a 5K activity at the end of the 8th week. It is a 5K event for the American Heart Association.
I am more than a walker so I have decided to pursue the beginner which is a combination of walking and jogging. Since I had knee surgery last fall to correct a tear, I do not want to take any chances in injuring it further and therefore approaching it with caution.
Last night my husband and I walked the first half of the 5K (which included some hills) and walked-jogged the second half. My husband, bless his heart, is very supportive and in better shape. He could probably run the whole thing but he did not go ahead of me - he stayed with me. We completed the whole thing in 55 minutes. We are going to do this every other day to prepare us for the official training in 2 weeks.
Today, my hips are sore but my knees are great. So far so good. My husband said his knees were sore. We are keeping a log of our activities so we can support each other. It is nice to do this together.
I had done very well on my weight loss until recently. Now it is coming off very slow, which I expected since I am getting closer to my goal. I still have 16 pounds I would like to lose. My clothes are definitely loser - so much I am contemplating buying pants so they do not look like they will fall off. I just hate to buy while I am trying to lose more weight.
Everyone - have a great week!
