To bring you up to date - the one night in the tent in the back yard went well - only a little bit of "I can't sleep - it is scary out here" and my son settled down and slept pretty well. Well, after the rearranging of who was sleeping where - and it ended up my son slept with me on one air mattress, while Daddy slept on the other one. It amazes me how wiggly kids can be while sleeping, yet the wake up in the morning completely ready and raring to go. And, is there some unwritten rule that when your children sleep with you they must either lay right next to you, or have a knee in the middle of your back? I didn't wake up so refreshed - but it was fun in any case.
My son and I went on to have a pretty fabulous stay-cation that following week.
We called up my brother-in-law and his family joined us on a day trip to a little amusement park about 30 minutes away. It was super hot that day - and we were all hot and sweaty and sticky by the end of the afternoon - but it was fun!
Then I took JT (my son) to his first major league baseball game - the Brewers! Mind you, he was more interested in finding the cotton candy than the game at first - but it sort of worked out. When we found the cotton candy vendor - they were also selling frozen lemonade. I did have a bit of the cotton candy (I LOVE how that stuff just melts in your mouth) and he shared about 1/2 of the frozen lemonade with me. I had a-ha type of moment close to the end of the game. We had gone back to the vendors and gotten the cheesy fries that came in the souvenir baseball hat and we were sitting there having some when I noticed I was the only one eating them. I then realized that I didn't have to eat them all - just a few is good too. So I didn't eat them all (in fact pretty much stopped eating them at that moment) - and eventually threw them out (not the hat). So YAY me!
Friday that week a group of us went to the State Fair - and even though I probably ate too much - I didn't get out of control ... we shared a lot of stuff (including the giant cream puff) ... and I left not feeling deprived, but not feeling sick to my stomach also.
Other than that - I have been catching up at work (always a fun part of going on vacation ... NOT ). Doing some Wii fit every morning (usually around 30 minutes) and trying to stay focused without becoming obsessed. That focusing thing without obsession is a very fine line for me - - - but I am working on it.
Funny thing yesterday morning I was doing the expert course on the Island Bicycling on the Wii fit (first time mind you) and I was having trouble finding the last flags, and when I did I had trouble finding my way back and then suddenly the Wii fit declared I was finished ... but I hadn't reached the finish line.?!?!? Turns out the max time Wii gives you to finish the course is 60 minutes. 60. Minutes. So instead of just doing the 30 minutes and done --- I had gone for an HOUR (sound like so much more time that way - don't you think?). ONE HOUR --- wow. What was also cool was I was going to stop a bunch of times and my son said "only 5 more flags Mama - you can finish this!" So I kept going - and I was totally bummed it timed out on me. So, for redemption I went back today and tried again - and finished the course in 36 minutes!
So not only am I teaching myself to keep going I think I am setting a good example for my son that even though it is hard don't give up & don't quit. As my Aunt Glad use to say to her basketballs teams (she was an awarding winning girls high school basketball coach) "how do you spell can't? T R Y." And I am going to keep on trying.
Happy Friday Y'all!
