Today I have been thinking. What would my life be like without medication? Some people think I take a lot of medication. Indeed, I take more than most. I take a medication for Acid Reflux and wonder what I would do without it! In the past I have had such a bad problem with acid reflux it would wake me up at night. I had to raise the head of my bed, just to be able to sleep in it!!

I take several medications for my bipolar disorder. Having been in the hospital so many times...over 6 times on a psychiatric ward, it has been a life saver!! I wouldn't skip it now it someone said they would give me lots of money or fame! I find that life is much calmer and stable now that I take my medication regularly. I feel good about myself and I don't worry that did something wrong when someone doesn't call me back right away. I have peace of mind!! It took me years to be able to say that!! I have been taking medications on and off for 34 years and steadily for 5 years. The last 5 years of my life have definitely been the best!!

I take medication for osteoarthritis. I would not be able to live without this medication that helps with the pain I have everyday! I am trying to get off of it, by taking the supplement glucosamine. It is a slow process. I am doing it very slowly. Trying to see the difference when I take the Celebrex and when I don't. I worry about the cardiovascular side effects of taking Celebrex long term.

I take a calcium supplement for my bones. It has vitamin D in it. I need both. I feel it is safer to take a supplement than risk the osteoporosis that runs in my family. Some people worry about supplements, but I feel fairly safe taking calcium.

So you see, I do take a bit of medication. I feel it helps my quality of life. I would be a wreck, with heart burn, more pain than I currently have and broken bones as I age and probably have more hospitalizations than I am currently having...if it weren't for my meds!!

I do agree with you about the medications. I take 20 medications a day for all my medical problems, and I know that I need them to continue feeling as well as I can. It's the cost of some of them that are the biggest problem as a senior citizen here in the USA. Such a shame that meds here can continue to have patents without getting a generic and we pay the price, when other countries will not allow the drug companies to do that. Guess I'm done gripping now and wish you a great week.

I love glucosamine- I take mine triple strength and with condroitin. :)
I think everyone could use a trip to the pshyc ward at least once in their lives to press the re-set button, nothing wrong with getting the help you need.
I know that getting to where you are was a lot of work- and this journey you're on now is a lot of work. I'm all for natural remedies- but I wouldn't be here today without a lot of help from science and synthetic drugs (albuterol, epinephrin, advair).
Keep working to improve your life in a way that works for you; it improves the lives around you simultaneously :)
