I think I can, I think I can....

Saturday, October 08, 2011

Hello fellow Sparkers! This is my very first blog - EVER! I wanted to share with you how running is something I've always wanted to do but just cannot for the life of me. I can powerwalk for miles but when it comes to running I just cannot get the stamina to do it. I couldn't even run for 30 seconds!! Well, today I built up the stamina and endurance to run for 10 minutes straight!! I started close to 2 weeks ago building up my seconds to minutes. I was excited when I did 3 minutes run and 3 minutes walk but then today I decided to see how long I could run without looking at the time and PRESTO...10 MINUTES passed! Granted, my pace is only at 4.0 (treadmill) and incline at 4.0 but I'm working at it. Believe me, running is hard for me. So, I just wanted to share this achievement with you all. Have a great day :)

Well, I started with a beginner women's running group in 2009, I had never run much less walk a mile without being pooped at that time. Throughout training I built my stamina and endurance and was able to complete 5K's. I must have done 5-6 5K, which led to half marathon. I did two of those, but at the end of last one I had a stress fracture in my foot that was March 2011(also had a knee surgery on the left knee in 2009). Anyway, I've learned to swim since the injuries and am just starting to walk again on the trails. Hopefully, I'll be able to get back to running, but only to 5K.

I joined the 5k too...I've been trying to do the training. I also have a hard time running, and don't know how I'll do for the Trick or Treat 5K. But I'm going to keep on trying, and just do whatever I can manage. I'm hoping the 5K will be incentive for me to keep going when I'm feeling like it's hopeless!

Hi Kyaren, don't worry..just keep at it as much as you can and you'll be amazed at your progress. Believe me when I say I could not for the life of me run even 30 seconds...but the more I did it, the better I got. Just takes time. Good luck on the Trick or Treat 5K!

    That's great!
I am still struggling the 5K walk/run training and it is very difficult for me to run more than 2 minutes... I joined the Trick or Treat 5K virtual race but I don't think I can do it...
