Rain, rain, go away!

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

Is it any wonder that I feel as though the universe is conspiring against me when it comes to exercise? One day after I start back on my plan to walk outside during my lunch break, it starts raining. It was pouring down so much yesterday that my office mate put off going to lunch to avoid getting drenched. Today is another rainy day, so it looks like my lunch walk is canceled again. Why did I say out loud that the weather was perfect for walking? I jinxed myself.

All this rain doesn't mean I didn't exercise yesterday, though. Since it was raining, I was going to do 10 minutes of Wii Fit, but guess what? No batteries. So I moved on to the treadmill, took out my mp3 player, and guess what? Dead battery. I ended up marching in place for 10 minutes while watching TV. It wasn't as strenuous as my walk around the block but at least I did something.

My husband ABM was home last night and I'd rather not exercise in front of him but I didn't have much of a choice. He is the type that believes it isn't real exercise unless you are so tired that you practically have to crawl away from the treadmill, leaving a puddle of sweat behind you. Even when I do that, he makes comments like, "Why are you breathing so hard? You weren't even running." For an overweight guy he can really go a long way without getting winded, so he genuinely can't relate to the idea that other people are hampered by their extra pounds; that's what keeps me from getting angry with him. Still, I would rather do my exercise when he isn't around.

Today's exercise? It will probably be the treadmill after work if I don't run my mp3 battery down!

I occasionally try doing stairs but I rarely last longer than five minutes. Between my knees hurting, my legs going weak, and my lungs feeling as though they will burst, I can't stick with stair climbing long enough to get the benefits.

Good for you for persisting in getting your exercise in despite obstacles! I don't mind exercising in front of a gym full of people or walking (even running sometimes) down a busy road, but god forbid one of my family members be in the room while I am doing any kind of exercise video! I just won't do it. I didn't mind so much when I was on the treadmill, but then again nobody made comments to me. DH knows better (and the kids were too little to notice/care!)

Do you have stairs in your building? You could always do 10 minutes on the stairs if you do!
