A good 7 mile run and the runner's physique

The last couple of weeks, my long runs have been brutal...the kind the feel like they're never going to end, and my pace has not been my best, which is discouraging. Yesterday I finally had a good run. I did 7 miles averaging a 9.30 pace. I was pretty consistent with this pace throughough the run as well; sometimes my splits are all over the place. I have discovered the only gel I really like is the Cliff gel in raspberry. I cannot drink Gatorade while running as it gives me cramps, same thing with Honey Stinger chews. So, I am done experiementing with fuel. I think that has been part of my problem as well.
I also had a decent tempo run on the treadmill. Treadmill running is a lot harder for me to keep a fast pace, which I find discouraging. So, I'm ignoring the numbers and just going by my rate of exertion for the different speeds. I know what my easy, mid, and hard paces are, and I just need to listen to what I feel like instead of stressing about the treadmill speeds. By changing my mentality, I was able to do 60 minutes on the treadmill. I enjoy outside so much better but sometimes I can only fit in the treadmill so my kids can go to the child daycare at the gym.
I have a 10K this Sunday. I think it will be my last of this year. It's been a good year for running. I never thought I would consistently be able to do long runs of between 7-10 miles every weekend. I am hoping to keep up a long run of at least 6 miles throughout the winter. I don't mind running in cold, but so many sidewalks around here don't get plowed well. I really feel like a half marathon is in my future for next year. I am glad it didn't happen this year, and that I could build my confidence with the 10Ks instead of pushing myself too far before I was ready.
The Halloween candy this week totally derailed my eating. Anyone else eat too many Reese's pb cups this week?
I also feel like I don't look like a runner. I am short and wide and probably carry 10 more pounds than I should. I am really trying not to let this bother me. Every year I lose a couple more pounds and I have maintined this weight 9 months. My clothes all fit; some are even getting lose. I am continuing weight training and am almost done with Stage 1. I LOVE feeling so much stronger. It's exciting.
Well, if you're still reading this, thank you. I am so inspired by other people's blogs about running and healthy eating.
