What I've learned today from a SP article, 10 Habits of Unsuccessful Dieters:
Bad Habit #1: Going "on a diet" in the first place.
What I've learned: Start small instead of straight away using the various range of "diet" plan, I think it's important to create a healthy lifestyle based on our own body's needs than just blindly trust those plans without knowing the actual purpose, the whys we need the diet plan. Besides, those plan usually tend to be short-term, especially for someone like me who easily get bored, haha.
Bad Habit #2: Overhauling your eating habits overnight.
What I've learned: Start small instead of deciding on one day, going to change EVERYTHING! Start slow rather than taking drastic measure.
Bad Habit #3: Giving up certain foods altogether.
What I've learned: Everything should be in moderation, instead of thinking eating certain things means very, very bad for you. Besides, not wanting to eat Food A probably makes me crave more and more and one day, I'll break and eating too much of Food A! So, chocolate in small amount daily than be a chocolate monster at one day!
Bad Habit #4 Only caring about calories.
What I've learned: Shouldn't depends on calories only for getting healthier meals, need to look at other things like proteins, carbs, fat, etc etc.
Bad Habit #5: Focusing on the scale.
What I've learned: This one always get hit many, many times that weighting myself doesn't give too high impact like it used to, hehe. So, to be a successful dieters, don't rely too much on scale!
Bad Habit #6: Only dieting and not exercising.
What I've learned: Dieting alone can help lose weight but don't think it will in long term so that's where exercising comes to the rescue, too. Other than helping to shed some pounds, exercise continuously can help in get more strength & flexibility, boost up energy level, better sleep at night and many more benefits! And of course, much faster losing those unwanted flabby areas compare to just manage your meals properly, hehe.
Bad Habit #7: Trying to eat as little as possible.
What I've learned: Be smart, eat within your range of calories and nutritious value. Eating as little as possible might make your body goes to "Starving" mode, making it harder to lose weight.
Bad Habit #8: Giving up too easily.
What I've learned: It will be tough at first so don't just give up so easily. Instead, if hitting plateau, try new plan or get support. There are also many ways to stay on track. Remember, you're might be just few steps nearer to goal so don't admit defeat yet!
Bad Habit #9: Confusing "healthy" with "low-calorie."
What I've learned: I do lots of this, I tend to get distracted with "low-calorie" on the package and thinking, it's ok to eat a lot. But what about the hidden fat and sugar? Perhaps the food is pack full of sky-high sugar even though it says low-calorie or no-calorie. So, one more time - BE SMART!
Bad Habit #10: Unrealistic expectations.
What I've learned: Get a realistic goal based on your body requires, don't just expect to get a very excellent result in a very short period, it might makes we so frustrated when can't get the goal. So, as the Smart Fix in the article said, "Change your expectations and your mindset".
