Product Review: Eggies

Saturday, December 10, 2011

With these knifty little gadgets, you can hard boil eggs without the shell.
The Eggies come 6 per box, and each Eggie has 4 easy to put together pieces: a lid, collar, bottom half and top half.

You have to wash them before using, and if you have a dishwasher, they can be washed in the top rack.
The top and bottoms pieces must be coated with non stick cooking spray or oil before using, but you don't spray the oil directly on them. They only need a very light coat; I spray my cooking spray on a towel and then wipe the towel on the insides.
You put the top half and bottom half together, and then you put the collar on, which holds the two halves together.
Then you crack the egg into the Eggie, and screw the lid on.

To cook, you place the Eggies in a saucepan of warm water, then bring to a boil. Follow the enclosed instructions for the cooking time, depending on the size of the eggs and whether you want them soft, medium, or hard boiled.

You have to let them cool a bit before opening, then you simply remove the lid, collar and top half, and the eggs come out easily by gently squeezing the bottom half.

I admit I am usually skeptical about "As Seen on TV" products, this is not a product I would have bought for myself, but I got a set for my birthday, so I tried them out, and I love them! The eggs cook up very nicely. They are perfect for things like egg salad, or a recipe where you will be chopping them up. They end up a little oddly shaped though, with the yolk on the top, so if you need hard boiled eggs for something like deviled eggs, you will probably want to boil your eggs the "old fashioned" way.

But these are nice especially for those who may have trouble peeling eggs, such as people who have arthritis in their hands. You can also add seasoning to the eggs before boiling, or boil the egg whites only. If I am not going to be using the eggs right away, I leave them right in the Eggies until I am ready to use them. The package also includes an egg separator.

Thanks for the info. I saw some knockoff ones today and debated buying them - only $2.00 for 6. Wonder if they work just as well.
