Great 4 mile run 2 weeks post Space Coast & update

Sunday, December 11, 2011

It was two weeks ago today that Emily and I ran Space Coast HM in Cocoa, FL in the heat and humidity. Today's 4 miler was my first run since Space Coast. Since that was my final race for 2011 after running 11 HM's I am purposely detraining somewhat so I can rest and recover from the year. I was going to simply head out in the neighborhood but hubby Jim suggested we head to our favorite bike path since there is no snow on the ground. The sun is shining brightly with temps around 38 and a SW 14 mph wind. We layered up and headed out. It was gorgeous and we enjoyed watching ducks and white birds.

The first 2 miles wasn't the easiest because my legs and lungs felt rusty after 2 weeks on non-use, but after that I felt great and enjoying the outing. I did the 4 miles with an 11:49 av pace in 47 minutes and that is not too shabby for me. There is nothing like burning almost 400 calories doing what you love!

I also had a chance to try out some gloves that Emily and I discovered at Haunted Hustle HM expo. They are Brooks Adapt gloves and are convertible from glove to mittens. There is even a slit in the thumbs so you can slip your thumbs out for Ipod maneuvering. I love them and they worked so well. They list at $30 but we scored them at runningwarehouse.com for $16. Here is a photo and I highly recommend them.

This was also my first chance to give my CW-X Insulator Stabilyx Tights and again...I love those too! You always hold your breath until you really try something out especially when you plunk down some $$$ on them. The tights actually got warmer as you warm up. I know you want to say...well duh...but this is a little different. Its like the fabric becomes more insulating as they warm up. I love the fit also. I feel like a runner wearing them! If someone would ask me if the compression improves my running I would say yes they do. For one thing, they hold all the wiggly jigglies down and that makes YOU feel good. Simple as that.

What are my current plans? Start training for Princess HM at the end of February and I am dialing my long runs back to 6 miles. My JG pan will stay in play and that is 2 weekday 40 minute runs and then my 4 mile long run on the weekend alternating every other week with the progressive increased mileage. That gives me a few months of no double digit long runs and thus resting my body.

I have BIG plans for 2012 including my potential first Full marathon. It is starting to appear that it will be Air Force marathon mid-September. I can train with our local running club so that will be awesome. I am also going to do fundraising through Team Fisher House which is huge for Marine Corps marathon, Air Force marathon and the Army 10 miler racing event. Fisher House is touted as one of the best charities out there and offers relief and help to our military. That is so close to my heart.

I already have several HM's already registered for and will utilize them in my training. I tried this year and it worked beautifully as I was able to keep my pacing at training pace. I also have something else up my sleeve but will not divulge that as of yet. I don't want to be yelled at LOL.

SO that is me in a nutshell right now. My medal hanger is FULL and the second one is in my hand for my 2012 medals.

I am now enjoying my time of reflection, recovery and rest. 2011 was everything I dreamed about and then some. I am seriously giddy as I start dreaming of what may be in 2012!!!

Stay tuned!

You had such an amazing 2011 Laurie! I can't wait to run with you again in 2012!!
Those gloves look awesome... if I can score a good deal on them like you got, I may look into it. It doesn't get as cold here, but since I am not used to cold, I am a big weenie when it comes to cooler temps. Gotta have good gloves! LOL

My hubby made my medal hanger, and it's full too. Time for a new one!!

i will have to check out the tights ..assuming they make them for men..IDK.. Up here it would be nice to get some quality cold running gear. I have some but there is room for improvement..

As far as the medal rack goes.. Love the bling! Keep running, they will make more racks! When Laurie goes running, the bling factory goes 24/7 to keep up. :)

All very impressive. Glad you had such a nice run. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Staybilyx tights, have both full length and capris. Now just might need to add a pair of insulators to the collection. You are right, worth every single penny. Gloves look really cool, they are up to $25.95 now, but I still may order a pair for my step-D. I think she'd love them. Thanks for all the tips. One of the many reasons emoticon

I wore my gloves today too. I love them. I will going to get running tights here soon. It was nice to be out in my long tights, new RunDisney shirt, HF arm warmers and stocking hat. Not the layers upon layers that I know will be coming in a month!
