Co-Workers Aren't Helping

Thursday, December 15, 2011

I've mentioned before that I work with adults who are mostly in their 20's, who are all fit and in shape...I definitely "stick out like a sore thumb", both in age and shape. Every month they plan a potluck(often with a theme and games to play). I want to be a part of the group so I always participate, but these potlucks are almost never low- calorie and healthy.

Because I am so self-conscious about being so different from everyone else, I haven't shared with them this new journey I am on to make positive and healthy changes in my life. Although I did mention that this months menu(nacho bar & baked potatoes, with all the fixings) is not very healthy. But I've decided this time, I'll participate by contributing items for the potluck, but I am bringing my own healthy lunch to eat. I know that part of making positive changes is accepting myself where I'm at right now and learning to become comfortable in these types of situations. I can't let others derail me from the journey I am on.

Good for you! Yes, I participate in potlucks, often bringing fresh veggies, or something healthy. And coworkers have gotten used to me declining the sweets that are often brought in. I will partake occasionally, though I'll often cut a very small piece just for a taste. And if I don't care for something, I've learned to toss it (sometimes privately), so as not to waste calories on food I don't care for!

Planning ahead and making choices that are right for you is *so* important! emoticon emoticon
