Recapture The Spirit

I totally enjoy exercising now and can't imagine my life without it. I power walk 4 or 5 days a week using Leslie Sansone's DVD's and I go to the gym on occasion and use the treadmill and swim laps. I love to garden and it burns the calories, especially in the Spring when the leaves have to be raked, dead limbs lopped, plants transplanted and numerous other chores.

I was thinking back to when I didn't do these things and exercise was a dirty word. I had no energy and was depressed about my weight but still didn't strive to change things. I blamed my husband and everyone else for my condition. But deep inside I only had myself to blame and if things were going to change I was the only one who could change them.

I remember in Jr. High School I was a cheerleader and just so full of energy and I never got tired. Everyday we had gym class and depending on the season, we would play softball, basketball, kickball, and track. Before school would start in the morning I had cheerleading practice and sometimes we would get a jump rope and do double jump rope and hot potato.

I think when we grow up and take on our responsibilities in the world we don't have time or opportunities for playing like that anymore. I had to exert much effort to find a way to put exercise back into my life again.

Thank Goodness I found a way of recapturing that spirit I had when I was young. I have reached my goal weight and continue to track my nutrition and my exercise with Spark People. If I can do it , I know you can , too.
