Sleeping Like a Cavewoman! 2928 in 2012!
Sunday, December 18, 2011
One goal I've set for myself is to average no fewer than 8 hours of sleep per night. (2928 hours of sleep over 366 nights in 2012.) I am, by necessity, up in the middle of the night working as part of my duties as a programmer. But on all the other nights, I will neglect housework and dishes if I must to be in bed, and shutting my eyes by 10:15. I've discovered that I'm well capable now of sleeping 9 hours sometimes, so I need to allow enough time for that to happen if that's what my body wants to do.
I'm reading a book called "Lights Out!" which is a bit of a polemic, but it's fascinating to learn of how critical sleep is to fighting germs and revving up the immune system. The immune system doesn't really get to work until your melatonin is flowing copiously throughout your sleeping body.
Ironically, the book is so interesting that I stayed up too late 3 nights ago reading it. Gotta do better than that.
