My 2012 Goals - Not Resolutions!

Saturday, December 31, 2011

It took me a long time to learn the difference (and importance) of setting Goals rather than Resolutions. To me, a Resolution meant that I started on January 1 and never slipped or failed in any way. So, within a few days, all of my Resolutions were broken. By setting Goals for the year, I can forgive myself for a slip-up and just get right back on track working towards reaching my Goals for the year.

Last year, my primary goal was to see if I could run 6 half-marathons in one year. I am proud to say that I did that! I also wanted to run 800 miles. When I finish this morning's 4-miler, I will have run 825 miles! I also set a goal to finally reach my healthy weight of 145 which, sadly, I did not reach. In fact, over the last couple of months I actually gained 10 pounds. So, for 2012 my goals are:

1) Reach my healthy weight of 145 (40 pounds to go)
2) Give up diet sodas for good
3) Run 1,000 Miles
4) Run 10 races (Variety of half-marathons, 10-Ks, and 5-Ks)
5) Bike 1,000 Miles

I'm feeling strong and ready for 2012 so bring it on!
