What else, New Year's Day,... I'm back again...

It is a new year, and I have been told my my doctor to lose 10lbs by the end of February. My bloodpressure is borderline and needs to come down. She may start drugs if I don't get it together. Well, I am already motivated this year to get in shape, since as you see from my blog last year, that last year was about finances. This year is about simplifying and health. My husband did retire, and we have bought new bikes for Christmas!!! He wants to ride around the neighborhood and then take them down to the beach and ride. We are quite motivated. I will be riding mine tomorrow (right now it is crammed behind the Christmas tree, that comes down tomorrow and the elliptical comes back to roost).
I did walk the dog tonight. The motivation was my new Sportline 12 watch/pulse monitor/pedometer from Walmart. It was $38, while the one at Sport Chalet was $80 so I didn't buy that one. The Sportline is not real easy to use, you have to read the directions and pay attention to how you push the selection buttons. After about 20+ min, I got my age/wt/stride (27") in it, and learned how to select the current exercise options for viewing. I walked 49min, 5812 steps, 2.47 miles, 229 cal, avg HR of 137. It was rather accurate. It was nice not having the torso strap around my chest just to walk the dog. I will use it when I really workout like on the elliptical.
So, my health will improve, as will my house since I have this week off. I am organizing the house for the new year, and so my husband can partake in some housework too, hopefully since he is retired. We are going to eat more at home, and we should be trying new recipies since he is the cook and is home all the time. He says he is going to get his health back, get off the colesterol and high bloodpressure meds, and maybe even the Type 2 diabetes medication. I want him to take care of himself, but can only show by taking care of myself.
This year is about being active and healthy. To get out and do things, not hibernate. Dave will also be starting what he has dreamed of doing and that is teaching drums! He loves playing and he wants to teach. I wish him the best and support him 100%.
