Back on Track...Eating To Live!

In September of 2009 I bought a home here in Temple, Pa. My 2yr old grandaughter came to stay with us which turned out to be 6 months and I went to Nursing school for 11 months. Well, needless to say, I had a major backslide! I stopped running and things like cheesesteaks became a regular part of my diet. So, here I am in January of 2012 back up to 175 lbs. Good news is I became a nurse and one night after my shift I found myself staring at the public broadcasting station and noticed a Dr. talking about the major problems with American nutrition. My ears immediately pricked up as I see on a daily basis what bad nutrition does to us...dementia. diabetes, heart disease. In school, my research thesis had been on the effects of childhood obesity on adult disease and overall health in America. I know that by the year 2050 a third of Americans will have dementia, a third diabetes and almost 90% will be obese. This Dr. was definitely preaching to the choir! I immediately ordered Dr. Joel Furhman's Eat To Live book and found myself reading the nutrition guidelines that I had, for the most part, started years ago on my own. I know this book to be true not only from my own experiences with weight loss and nutrition but also from the patients that I deal with everyday. My body has been screaming at me for a long time to drop the meat and processed foods. I only had to listen! Now, I am back on track eating for my health with weight loss being the secondary concern. I already feel substantially better physically and mentally with no cravings for meat, processed foods, sodas or sugar!
