Here I Go Again...

So, it's been a looong time since I've written a blog on my page. I was out of commission for a while due to some random blood clots in my lungs. I'm otherwise very healthy, so they were a shock. The good news is that they didn't kill me and that there was no permanent damage. I'm going to be on blood thinners for the rest of my life, but that's not a big deal, all things considered. I've been cleared recently by the pulmonary clinic and the cardiology clinic--my lungs and heart are okay, so I can start working out. I'm 38 now, and skipping over a year at the gym has taken its toll. I haven't gained weight, but my lung capacity and muscular endurance are just not the same. Back when I was in my twenties, I could visit the gym sporadically and not notice the difference, but I am feeling it now. I worked out a week ago, and I was sore for three days--I could barely walk. Anyway, the point of my story is that I've got a long road ahead of me, but I am excited that I'm healthy enough to get back to the gym. One thing I keep in mind when I'm tired or don' t have the motivation to work out is that I am lucky that I am physically capable of running. I have medical appointments at Bethesda, and I see veterans who are amputees. They don't have the option right now to go for a run or get on the elliptical, so I remind myself not to take my physical abilities for granted.
