For the love of FOOD

Monday, January 23, 2012

Okay, so not only do I have a hard time making it through the work day with out snacking (I work in a grocery store. store+snacking=BAD) I absolutely love to cook. It really doesn't matter what it is, but I'm keen on pastas. I really like to try new things, usually I just make stuff up because I'm awful at following recipes. (ex. recipe calls for 1 tbs butter, I'm usually gonna put at least 2tbs just in case 1 isn't enough) Trying to work around my bad habits and work environment to eat better has ended up being a complete disaster. The things that I really want to cook are also the things that are not exactly good for diets and healthy eating. Basically any kind of Italian food and I'm game... Is there a worse type of food for healthy eating? Other than 2000 calorie burgers of course. But pasta, unless whole grain, really isn't that great for you, and I like it in large amounts. Also, CHEESE. I love cheese. I've found that I am incapable of opening a bag of shredded cheese for something and not using the entire bag, no matter what the recipe says. If it calls for cheese, I'm using the entire bag.

On a better note, healthier at least..
I've found that I really enjoy salad even without dressing. I hate iceberg lettuce, but romaine and green leaf are absolutely amazing. I've gotten to where the only dressing I use is a combo of Olive Oil, Red Wine Vinegar, and Dijon Mustard. Slightly tart, but overall pretty tasty. I really enjoy making different dressings and sauces myself for lots of things anyway, especially for salad and sandwiches. I looked at the nutritional value on Mayo today and almost died. No more mayo for this girl.
