How's that for a pun? Not bad, eh? It's all I could think of, so help me...LOL.
Thank you to the Sparkers who responded to my last blog. I felt really happy that people took time to welcome me back and encourage me. Right back to ya!!!
Let me say that this week has been GOOD in the exercise and food department. Rather, I had days of consistent exercising and decent food intake balanced with a day of not-so-good. However, this week was different in that I didn't beat myself up for the day that I ate too much. Actually I needed to as I was really, really hungry that day. I'm not sure why as I didn't burn any calories exercising. Anyway, the take home message for me was that I can survive this exercising and eating right thing if I just cut myself some slack and commend myself on what I do get done well.
In relation to exercise, I have found that HIIT works the best for me. Why? Because I'm LAZY and my muscles are lazy and my fat cells are lazy so they need to be jolted into working hard. And because I can't do too much activity that feels like 'exercise' unless I am outdoors (the latter, I love). So if I can torture myself for 20 minutes, then my mind tricks me in to thinking that I can do it and not die. Finally, I get bored very easily so have to make the exercise time worth it. Thus far it has been working. I do HIIT 3 times a week and the remaining days, I work in circuits.
Kinks in the plan: My little baby boy who does not let me exercise in peace. He keeps interrupting me with kisses, walking under and over me. And since, I stop every time to accept his affection (I can't help it; I love that little boy), my 20 min intense exercise stretches to 40 min instead. A price I am totally willing to pay for all that sweet baby love.
So what is the result this week? I have dropped down from size 12 to about size 9-10 in one week. I am beginning to see a waist and my hips have shrunk. I can feel my muscles and am beginning to get definition in musculature. And my core is STRONG. Although these results took more than a week to develop, being consistent this week really made drastic changes in the visible transformation. I find that amazing. I need to take measurements and hope to do so today. All in all, I'm happy with the results.
Here's a summary of the exercises that I've been doing during the week. I don't do these all together but have combined a few together. My total time generally averages 30 min of good activity and I try to do everything in a circuit beginning and ending with yoga: Yoga-cardio-weight-cardio/weig
ht-yoga. And I do HIIT 3 times a week with any of the cardio exercises I find interesting that day.
Ashtanga yoga (I try not to miss doing it as I love it) Breath is key!!!
Running (10 min intense - outside) (I find running hard but vital for my 'fat'-blast, jumping jacks, jumping rope, burpess (HARD!!), dancing with baby, kickboxing (Basic level from a DVD; it's fun but a killer workout), Jillian michaels DVDs or other such.
Weight training as well as squats, lunges, plies, planks (all with weights)
Food: I've been eating balanced meals. My main trouble is portion size as I feel very hungry (I'm still nursing my baby). But I've been deliberately giving in to my cravings a few times and then not most others. So I feel balanced which is huge accomplishment for me.
Sleep: I'm still sleeping very poorly. My son wakes me up or I have frightening dreams (I don't know why?!!). I wake up tired most days.
Water intake: Pretty good but could be better. Especially since my complexion has improved with better hydration.
Stress: Still pretty stressed with work-related stuff. But handling it a little better through yoga meditation.
That's all I have time for to post today. Hope you all are having a good week.
Sending positive Spark wishes to you all.
