My dad has had problems with his face for two years now. One side droops and his face is either numb or on fire. The root of the problem has remained a mystery no matter how many neurologists/specialists he sees or how many tests are done. Finally, in agony, he was able to get an appointment at the Mayo Clinic.

He's been there two weeks and on Thursday they finally concurred on a diagnosis: cancer in two of the nerves that travel up the face to the brain.

If they've told my parents how close the cancer is to his brain, they're not sharing that info. So now they'll be spending 5-6 more weeks in Minnesota while Dad undergoes radiation and chemo.

It seems weird to have this family crisis while we are all over the place: parents in a hotel in Minnesota, two siblings in Michigan, one in South Carolina, one in London, England, me in Arkansas. Seems like we should be rallying around or circling the wagons or SOMETHING.

Wish there was more I could do other than worry, pray, and stay in touch.

Thanks for reading and Happy Saturday, everyone.

Wow. Thank God for the Mayo Clinic to have finally found the problem. How frustrating that must have been. Now into action......I hope the chemo and radiation are not too difficult and that the problem is resolved. I'm sure your parents feel your love and support.
    You're in our prayers.

That is heavy news. Thank God he is in a GREAT place. I pray that after he is done with the hardships of treatment, may he have relief from his long suffering and his pain will be gone, along with the cancer. You and your family are in my prayers.

I am sorry for your news. It is good that answers have been found. It is hard for family to be connected as you say. That generation is generally resistant to computers which is too bad and too sad to miss that opportunity to bridge separation. Our emotions step onto a roller coaster in times like these. I will add you all to my prayers, may you find peace and wisdom. emoticon

It might be better if you and your sibs could visit your parents one at a time throughout this health crisis to spread out the help and support for dad AND mom.
Hope he has a speedy recovery.
