Looking forward to a GREAT WEEK!

Monday, February 13, 2012

Thanks for all the great comments to my parents blog.

Yes, we should all be having "the conversation" with our parents or children! I understand the parents don't want to give up their independence but the truth is they aren't independent now anyway. They rely on their kids for almost everything.

I checked on what Watermellen said and apparently "Capacity Assessments" for the elderly are done in Canada but not the US. Too bad. We are told by one political party that nationalized health care is "bad" but in many ways the Canadian & European systems are way ahead of us. (imho!)

TC and I walked 9 miles yesterday in 2 hours, 28 minutes -- and me in new shoes. I had to stop once to readjust the laces but other than that I think they'll be OK. Aren't they just adorable??

When I hit 160, my reward will be a cute workout top in the same turquoise!

I had E2 Pasta Primavera last night and it made a TON. I used 2 oz. of pasta for me (which is 5 oz. cooked, am I the only one who didn't know that?). The veggie mixture made 11 scoops with my ladle and I had three -- about 80 calories per ladle, I figure. FILLING and delicious. I was skeptical about the cashews on top but they actually were great.

It's a keeper!

Today it is snowing and later is supposed to turn to freezing rain. We are planning to clean our house thoroughly (TC is already vacuuming, bless his heart) and I have papers to grade but this afternoon we'll probably watch a movie! It's great to not be working!

I hope everyone has a safe and excellent Monday -- it's a great day to kick off a GREAT week!

No you are not the only one that didn't know that about pasta. emoticon I'm glad you enjoyed the pasta... was going to make it for today...but now am doing BRAT until we feel better.
Love your shoes. A while back I relearned how to tie my shoes from link I found here at SP

(You'll have to copy the link...the video is amusing)

I think some doctors may do "Capacity Assessments" but good luck in getting the 'rents to the doctor.

You are both busy and productive! The two do not always go hand in hand emoticon I do love your new shoes. Doesn't black make so much more sense than white??? Sauconys have been my long time favorite. They have a wider toe box and are the one and only shoe that fits me and my arch well. They should come with built in mileage trackers so we know when to turn them in on a new pair.

Like New_Paradigm said - I saw the last blog on the parents. You and TC certainly have your hands full and I wish you good luck! This can't be easy.

It does remind me that my brother and I need to prepare for when and if my mom ever really starts losing it. Her side of the family apparently has strong genes because her brothers, sisters, and parents all remained very sharp up til the end. Nevertheless the time to plan is now - not when the event is occurring so thanks for the prompt.

Liked the shoes - they seem to fit the new you!! Maybe I'll get a cute top when I get to my chosen weight!! NOT!!

    Keep up the good work.

Glad the info was useful re capacity assessments -- they're not done routinely here either but can be useful in the context you're describing.

That pasta recipe sounds good: I always love cashews!

You must be in my time zone.. snow and later sleet. /sigh

Can't complain too much - we've had a fairly mild winter.

    LOVE the shoes!!!

Maybe your state department of elderly affairs or local visiting nurses association can put you in touch with someone who could help you find needed services for them.

I saw the prior about the ongoing with your in-laws, tough stuff. I admire your ability to hold that AND be positive about what's going on with you. Enjoy your wintery nesting day!!
