Since I've been in this sort of plateau range for a few months now, I've been looking at a number of different ways to change things and shake up my system. As I was looking at my past week's calorie log, I had realized I forgot to pay attention to fiber. I had to dig around to even find where I was tracking it (in the bottom left hand corner of the calorie tracker page) and I realized my fiber intake was shockingly low.
When I went shopping a couple of days ago, I made sure to get some foods that were higher in fiber, but to cover my bases I decided to get a fiber supplement as well. These little Fiber Choice chewables, about the size of a silver dollar.
I started to take them this weekend at breakfast and dinner time, adding another 6 grams of fiber to my diet. And a few hours later I remembered the thing that bothered me about adding extra fiber to my diet before:
And I'm not talking about mild gas, either. Nothing that would be tiny or infrequent or barely noticeable- I'm talking like "holy crap, what the heck is wrong with me and will my cats stop looking at me funny" kind of gas. When your cat decides to finally jump off your lap, leave the couch, and move to the other side of the living room, you know it's got to be bad.
Frequent. Shockingly audible. Impossible to hide. It might just be me and *hopefully* an adjustment period that will soon pass, but I just wanted to warn anyone who might decide to go down the same path. It's going to be a noisy path.
Let my embarrassment be a cautionary tale for anyone else- be prepared! I would suggest handing out condolence cards to loved ones in advance, just out of courtesy.
