#524: Saying "Thank You" Not Enough

Three weeks ago I wrote about losing another pet, Little Thang, a kitty I took in as a stray eight years ago. When I said goodbye to her I also said goodbye to another piece of my heart as we all do when we lose someone or something close to us.

Over the past several years there have too many relatives, friends and pets pass on that I am surprised there is any of my heart left.

It is this accumulation of losses that left me feeling numb.

But, you encouraged me even as some of you are going through similar situations.

As I thought how best to express my gratitude for having you stand with me during this latest loss, I realized that merely saying, "Thank you," is not enough.

I appreciate your friendship and hope you know how much you helped me. It may not be enough but when I say, "Thank you," it is from my heart that grows a bit larger as it fills with the support and sympathy you have shown me during this time.

    Lou, I'm sorry about the loss of your cat. I'm as sure as I can be that Little Thang was close to your heart. My dog, Joey, who I wrote a blog about died on May 6th of this year. I bought him when he was about 7 weeks old, 13 years ago. Losing Joey was extremely hard for me! Tears are coming now, just thinking about him.

    I came here to thank you for leaving the comment on my blog and chose this blog to read. I'm glad I did.

    I like the one more question you said you would ask. I'm planning on doing that brainstorming so I'll add your question now! Thanks again, Darlene

    PS I was given another dog. Her name is Annie. She only weighs four pounds so she's just a little thang! (smile) I'll write about her one day soon.

    "Thank You" is more than enough. Friendships are knit together by sharing, kind thoughts and prayers. We should be thanking you for all you have given to your spark friends. The amazing thing about the human heart, no matter how many pieces are torn away by sadness or grief it always seems to regenerate itself and comes back stronger than ever. That's God's grace.

    I am happy to hear how you have been comforted in this website. Even though it exists in cyber-space; the friendships are real.
    My pet, a poddle-collie mix named 'Will Robinson'; I know such a big name but my children liked to watch 'Lost in Space'- a long time ago...lol...When I lost him(hit by a car because he jumped the fence after a female neighbor), I cried like I had lost a close family member. emoticon my children thought that I was trying to tell them that father had died - because I was mumbling in my sobbing so much. Afterwards I lost my biological father, then grandparents, an unborn, and my mother. emoticon

    At my meeting at church tonight, there was a reading that said that the only way love grows is to keep giving it away. With each loss that you experienced, you gave away a piece of your heart -- you let go of more love -- which made room for more love to grow. It will take time to fill that void in your heart with more love, but rest assured, our loving God will fill you with more love.

    I'm really thankful for your friendship as well, Lou. Things will get better and easier in time, as I'm sure you know. They always do. You just have to grieve and once you get through that phase, it's easier to move on. Pets are never just pets, they are our family because we love them so much. Hang in there!

    A wonderful blog, Lou, as are all yours...but any of us that have lost someone or "something" (how I hate to use that word for our beloved children/pets) we totally understand the losses you have had to endure...and of course, we understand also that we learn to deal with them and get on but that part of our heart remains empty for that "being" that is gone (human or otherwise) but thankfully God gave us a heart that can grow more love for new things that come into it...kind of like a flame that you can lose a portion of yet the original can continue to grow!

    Maybe we don't lose a piece of our hearts when someone we love dies, because when we love someone, we trade a piece of our hearts for a piece of theirs. So part of them stays with us forever, and part of us goes with them on their journey.

    These are things that actually need no thank yous. The well wishes and outpourings of support are from the heart and needing nothing in return.

    I can certainly relate, Lou. It is hard enough to lose one person or fur buddy. When the losses come faster than you have time to recover, it is overwhelmingly sad and hard to deal with.
