So I'm back on SP after a long time.
I've always kinda sucked at the blog thing. I read other people blogs and I'm jealous of their ability to write something that everyone finds entertaining, inspirational, etc. Maybe I've never got into blogging because I don't have a lot to say. I'm a pretty laid back, go with the flow kinda guy ... unless I get passionate about something. Then I can rant about it for awhile. (See my blog about kid's menus in restaurants.) But I guess I should be more passionate about my health. So here goes.
Um ... I don't really have a topic to talk about, so I guess this will just be stream of conscious.
So I'm back on SP (I guess we covered that.) Some years ago, I got on SP (at the recommendation of my smart and lovely wife), and I made a lot of progress. I lost like 30 or 40 lbs.
It was great. I felt better, had more energy, and was really enjoying working out. Then life got in the way. My mom got very sick with breast cancer. She had beaten it once, but it came back with a vengance. My wife and I were spending lots of time visiting the hosiptal, and trying to help take care of her. I wasn't making time to exercise, track food, etc, and I fell off the wagon. (She ended up loosing her battle with cancer, but that's not really what I'm here to focus on.)
That was 2 years ago. After that I never really got back on the program. I'd log on for a week or 2 every once in awhile and track my food, but I wasn't making lifestyle changes and I wasn't working out. So of course I gained the weight back.
(ok, it's not THAT bad.)
So that's my SP journey so far. I've decided to recommit to myself and to SP. I was feeling like I was heading down a road that wasn't going to a good happy place. I want to get healthy and be around for a long time, grow old with my wife, and hopefully see some grandkids. I want to set a good example for my son, so he grows up living a healthy lifestyle. So far, I've been tracking my food for over a week, and as a result I've been making healthier eating choices. I haven't started working out yet, but I will make an effort to do that soon. I also need to get back into the SP community. I used to like participating in the SparkTeams, so I'll try to stop by and say hi.
Hopefully this is the beginning of something good...
