Time To Journal Again

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

when I reflect back on the success of steady progressive loss in the early part of my SparkJourney, one component that existed then that does not now was a daily journal

but my daily journal was exhausting - I poured my heart, soul, frustrations, and accomplishments into it - I rambled on for pages sometimes weaving a path through my confusion

that journal was not something I really want to go back and read - there is a lot of emotion there

but what I do need now is a way to track my triumphs, stumbles, and goals in a format that I can review when I need to - and something consistent that keeps me on track

the post from zenhabits.net yesterday gave me some hope and direction

in a nutshell, he suggests using bullet points and says "I like that I can look back and see what the highlights are of each day — this helps me to know if I’ve been focusing on important stuff, or frittering my days away."

here is a link to the full post which is worth a read zenhabits.net/journal/

Journaling is an on and off thing for me but I know that I feel better, more connected, when I'm "on." Enjoy!

What is your goal with the journaling?
    Keep record?
    Write out emotions?
    Clear your mind?
    Practice writing?
    Log and track?

I'm writing the daily gratitude journal light. It's really fun.

The morning pages are also good and on my wish list:

My goal with the gratitude journal is to put my focus on the positive things in life, and improve my attitude to be more positive.

Zen habits rocks! I re-find that site all the time and then wonder why I'm not going there more often!

Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project, also uses a tool called a one sentence journal. You might look into that too.

Looking forward to sharing and supporting you. emoticon

I like the bullet points idea. I must admit that there are times that I will still pour out in journal just to get what is hiding inside of me out so I can deal with it though.

I have been journaling for the past 30 years. I have scanned my old journals into my computer and unlike the author, I do a journal entry before I go online every day. I have occasionally read some of my old journals and I am amazed at how far I have come, when I felt like I wasn't moving. I did destroy some journals I kept when I was married to my ex because I didn't want my son to read them when I'm gone and the woman writing those journals is not at all like the woman I am today.

    Thanks for the link!

interesting article and i'm busy checking out the web site. i have a 5 year journal (on paper) that has only a few lines per day, so not room to right a lot, which works great for the bullet point format. each page shows 1 day over 5 years. i really like it.

    thanks for sharing.

I have been trying to get back into journaling myself. It is a great way for me to purge my soul.

I too try to avoid going back and reading my old journals. Doing so opens doors to long dealt with sadness.

Bullet points I am going to have to work on that.

I like the bullet points idea as well. Maybe I will try that too. I too have a problem with rambling and my point gets lost along the way somewhere.
