Back on the "Band-Wagon" again!!

Thursday, April 05, 2012

I am back on the "Diet" (LifeStyle change) band-wagon once again. I sure is a struggle trying to stay on this wagon with so many things trying, and succeeding, to throw me off. I have never lost sight of what I need to do and the goals I am trying to reach. I get side-tracked at times but I remember the guidelines I need to follow.

I am planning another motorcycle road-trip starting May 8th that will take me, for the 4th year, on the Run For The Wall annual event from Portland to Los Angeles to Washington DC. But...I will not be able to make it to DC this year since I have to be back home by the 3rd week of May or our 25th wedding anniversary. For the past 3 years I have called my wife while on the road-trip from Louisiana wishing her a happy anniversary. She has been very tolerant of my trips, so I need to comply with her request, plus I want to be here for our "special" 25th anniversary.
I have planned my route so that I will still get in about 4800 miles. This trip will take me to Lake Tahoe East shore, Carson City NV. to Bishop, CA through Death Valley where I will visit Scotty's Castle, Big Bear Lake CA Crestline, CA and on into Los Angeles area. After my portion of the Run For The Wall I will return back via the California Hwy 1 coast route.
The trouble I have on these trips is that my food choices suffer and throws me off the diet band-wagon. I will try and not let that happen this year.
I should think about what I should take along and what I should leave home.

My husband will also be leaving from Florida on May 8th, and riding to CA for the Run for the Wall. I have made the trip with him twice; once from NY, and once from FL. I decided not to go on this trip with him. We did make a cross country trip 2 years ago on the bike, so I have "bragging rights", and decided that since he wants to make the trip to CA in 5 or 6 days, that I would skip it this time. He will be taking the Southern Route. Is that the one you are going on?

It *is* hard staying on track as far as food goes when taking a trip like that, but I'm sure you have learned a lot and can keep those guidelines in mind when you choose your meals. It's all about portion control. I did bring some things along. It helps to be prepared.

Have a great trip. It is truly a moving experience. I know I will miss not being there this time, but I have a feeling he will be doing it again and I might ride along then.

Yep - that's what his bike looks like when he leaves . . .just kidding. Actually he organizes & agonizes over every little thing before the trip - packing & repacking, etc. And yes, I did put the kibbosh on going the whole way to DC this year - a 25th wedding anniversary only comes once.

I do have to remind him however, that motorcycle riding is not as "passive" as one would think - there have been past years when he's returned home LIGHTER than when he left - just because he rides upwards of 500 miles per day.

While he is gone I will be embarking on my own journey back to more healthy activities - my work has issued a challenge to all employees to compete on steps walked per day, exercise minutes per day & losing 1-2 lbs per week!!! I am on a team called "The Moon Walkers". LOL
I also have a new Zumba game to try out!!! Fun!! (with shades drawn of course)

Just make sure you keep the rubber side down & come home in one piece my love.
