With each passing day we are getting closer and closer to my wedding! And I'm getting closer to my fitness goals! Now, I haven't been the type of bride that is trying to lose weight just for the wedding, or trying to reach a magical number on the scale for the day that I walk down the aisle, but I did want to look and feel my best on the big day! I've always been health minded, so the wedding wasn't something that started a new lifestyle for me, but it did give me a little kick to kick things up a notch. For example, I had never been one to do much strenth training, but with a strapless wedding dress and a Jamaican honeymoon, I did want to have a nice toned look! So I guess you can say that the wedding has been by extra motivation for those days that I didn't want to work out. It has been great motivation to get out there and do it, because I know if I tell myself I can stop after 10 minutes, once I get those 10 minutes finished I've usually found the motivation to keep going and do my full workout. I also now know that I am very good at reaching attainable goals! The wedding made me want to work harder than I would have if I hadn't had this big event to work towards, and then in the fall I'm running a 10 miler, which I have never done before, so that's another goal for me. And I really hope to run a half marathon in February. I think if I can just keep making goals like these for myself, then I will be able stay motivated and keep my eye on the prize!

What motivates you on those days where you just want to curl up and skip your workout?

You know, that is a very good question. I'm not doing this for any particular event or goal, I just need to be better at taking care of myself. I have learned a lot along the way - believe it or not I am a dietician, have been a physical trainer, and been "health conscious" since I was about 6 - but for some reason Spark People has just really struck me and I have achieved things since joining this group that I have not been motivated to do before.
But the one thing that gets me up off the couch and into my workout every day is how good I feel AFTER I have worked out! I love that sweating, tired, achy, just-plain-spent feeling that hard physical exertion gives me.
Thanks for posting this - it is a good idea to think about our motivations because it helps to keep our goals clear too.
