Surgery Is Scheduled

Tuesday, May 01, 2012

So, I met with the surgeon today and am now scheduled for cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) on May 7th-- next Monday. I have pre-surgery testing scheduled for this coming Friday.

The surgeon was really nice, VERY knowledgeable (as expected) and well-spoken. He was honest and explained that with my gastritis he can't guarantee my symptoms will 100% disappear because it is hard to say which symptoms are gallbladder and which are gastritis-- I appreciated his honesty. We discussed that with a 1% ejection fraction it is a matter of time before my gallbladder gets to completely non-functioning and he seemed surprised I was not worse off.

He explained about post-cholecystectomy disorder which is when people experience lots of loose bowels following their cholecystectomy... he explained that it is a real thing he has seen but that studies have yet to find a reason why some people get it. He gave me lots of info and treated me gently but intelligently. All too often doctors tend to treat me like I am a child and I am not sure why! I liked that he told me the honest truth about what to expect from this surgery... it makes me feel informed fully because that he wasn't like, "everything will be awesome!"

ANYWAY-- it looks like at least 1 week of down time followed by at least of month of restricted lifestyle and several months of restricted foods.

I just can't wait to get this thing out and see if I feel better finally!!! So, please keep me in mind over the next 2 weeks! I will be sure to come back and update on how the surgery went.

My sister and my best friends mother both had their gb's removed. Interestingly - they both reacted differently in what they cannot eat nowadays. My sister - drinks coffee; my bf's mom cannot. My sister cannot eat onions, my bf's mom can. My sister continues to have issues.. my bfs mom does not.
    Keeping you in my thoughts!

Well when Reiko got her gb out it was immediate relief for a lot of the unexplained symptoms she had been having. Spicey and greasy foods upset her stomach sometimes, but for the most part she's fine.

I pray that everything goes well and that you feel much better afterwards! I'm sure they're going to do laprascopic surgery so you should have very tiny scars like she does! Thank God for advancements in technology!

I'm so glad this is finally going to be done. I'm praying for a smooth surgery, a fast recovery, no loose b.m.s (Donny did experience this), and that most if not all of the symptoms are related to the gall bladder and with surgery they will disappear. Love you, my friend.
