I tried my first recipe from another member in the challenge

TARANITUP posted this blog entry about a Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie www.sparkpeople.com/mypa

it sounded so good that yesterday after my husband got home from a trip to Colorado and the kids were in bed, I took some much needed me time and went to Menard's to just walk around and see if maybe they had a blender (they are kind of like a Home Depot, but with more things)

I've been blender-less for about a year, which means smoothie-less for about a year - but her recipe inspired me to change that - I was just going to get a cheap one, but when I got there, they had a high-end Black & Decker model on clearance that was cheaper than the cheap model (weird, right?) - so I paid $20 for a $40 machine that not only came with a glass jar (I prefer glass for a blender) but also a stainless steel one too, and the motor has a special sensor that will shut it off if the machine is getting overran to prevent it from burning out

so this morning I tried her recipe with the modification of quick oats for the Kashi Go-Lean cereal

so here is what 1/2 cup crushed ice, 1/2 cup vanilla unsweetened almond milk, 1/4 cup non-fat plain Greek yogurt, 1 medium banana, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and 1/4 cup quick oats looks like nutritionally:

and here's what it looked like on my counter this morning with my new blender:

★★★

this challenge has taken me a bit by surprise

maybe it is the name of it "Eat To Live" that has been sticking with me - I think about it all of the time during my day - I think about it especially when I am eating

I rarely eat to live

I eat to soothe, I eat to feel good, I even eat to feel bad (if you've never done this, you won't get it, but if you have, you will)

so this month, it is about figuring out what eating isn't about, because I'm finally getting what it is about

when you eat to live, food is about nourishment and not effect

Don't you just love getting new tools to help with your healthy lifestyle? I've already promised myself a blender for a weight-loss reward. Seeing yours and entering smoothie season (I don't make them in the winter!) has given me some fresh motivation today! Enjoy!

I'll have to check out that challenge. Sounds like one I could use too--I have the same issues with eating for the wrong reasons!

Ok first... I got chills reading your blog. I MUST be a nerd or something but I'm so proud that the challenge is getting you to reflect so much! AND for all of us to force ourselves to take the extra step to make a good recipe here and there. I too have felt that I'm thinking about my food a lot but I have EASILY been well in range each day this week even with the increased focus on food.

Second - I'm glad you tried to recipe! I got your message while I was reading in bed last night and quick responded by my phone about the oats - I'm glad you got it in time to make it last night!!!

I have gotten a lot of really good feedback today on the ETLC and I love it... it makes the time and energy I put into it as the leader SO worth it :)

    Great job Katie!

Thought provoking. There is more to eating than eating!

Great on getting a blender. It's hard without one. We got one at and auction for $5. Turns out there wasn't a cover. The company sent us one for free! It's the best ever. I like to make an all-day smoothie (it's too much for one serving, so i sip on it throughout the day. It's just protein powder, fruit and almond milk, water and ice (the protien powder drink is rich)

What a month we're having already!
