Just when I needed something fun and new to do for exercise, my sister asked if I wanted to go rollerskating. I was nervous because I hadn't skated since I was in elementary school. At 30 I had no idea how I'd do. I thought I would fall flat on my face but it came back to me. It's like why they say about riding a bike. I was pretty good at it when I was a kid with all the skating parties happening and school events. Last night was really fun, skating with my sister and niece who is 11. She's just gotten the hang of it and my sister and I are around the same with skating. (I might be a little better though... hehe)
At first, getting back on skates after 17 or more years (can't remember my last time) I was a bit shaky. I don't know if it was the pair of skates they gave me or just me, because after struggling with the the first pair (plastic, rubbery and hurt my feet) , I switched to a different type (suede like material... softer and comfy)...it was like night and day. I immediately began to skate like I never stopped skating. My sister had this same experience with her skates. I don't know why why make those hard uncomfortable ones... I needed help with those. Some young guy that works there was skating and offered to help... He kept giving me that come hither look LOL I was hoping he would stop trying to flirt because he was clearly around 19 or 20ish. Too young for me but he didn't try to get my number. (sigh of relief...) But he was there to help me and he kept me from falling. I was grateful for that. Or else I would've hurt myself in those horrible skates. Why didn't he tell me that I should try a different pair? Maybe he didn't think of that at the time... I'm glad my sister suggested the suede ones, or else I would've felt like a loser LOL. Anyway, we plan to go an get our own skates and start going regularly.
Now I can gladly accept invitations so skating parties. I would turn them down for fear of not being able to skate anymore. But guess what... I plan to have my own skating party for my birthday because I had soooo much fun skating last night.
It's really good exercise and works all my muscles. My arms feel like I had been lifting weights and my back and abs got a good workout too. And I can't forget my calves! OMG my muscles were burning and we were at the skating rink for like 2 hours. I think I rested maybe a total of 20-30 minutes (a few minutes here and there to rest) and I think that's pretty good. This is my new fun way to workout :) I can't wait to go again!
