So sorry to hear that Jim has diabetes. My husband has Type 2 diabetes as well, and initially he did not take it too seriously; after all, it was controllable with oral meds to begin with. It progressed to the point he had to take insulin, however, and that along with me making positive changes to lose weight and get healthy finally got him going with using SP and paying attention to his diet and activity. He now is off insulin and back to one pill twice a day; cleaning up the diet and getting regular exercise makes a huge difference. Hopefully your guy won't take as long as mine did to make the changes that are necessary to bring things under control; he is fortunate in that you are there to help and support him.

    Laurie,

You DEFINITELY have the right attitude! I think some people just need a wake-up call to GET IT! Sorry that your husband has to feel so horrible- but I think that having you for support and as a living example is such a blessing for him!

    HUGS!!!!

I know Jim will shift his focus and take caare of himself now. I think he needed something like this to make him truely realize how important it is. I am hoping that Matthew takes this a sign that he doesn't want to follow down this same path. We will all get through this together and be stronger, healthier Running Roses because of it!!! emoticon

Sorry to hear about Jim - in addition to SP, look at ADA and perhaps see if he can go to see a dietician (a spouse is more likely to listen to a professional over a spouse)

You guys will be in my thoughts when I ride 'Tour de Cure' on Saturday.

So sorry to hear this Laurie. On my husbands side of the family, EVERY , I mean EVERY relative over 50 that I know has it. For some reason they just don't seem to get the fact they need to cut back on carbs..God love em. Hubby won't get tested and I surely can't make him (can't tell a former Marine what to do, lol).

Prayer will be said for you and Jim Laurie. The more I read about diabetes I am convinced it can be reversed with a proper diet.

my kids are always thanking me for the great genes we have passed to them. They're always saying 'something else to look forward to'. My husband is also diabetic and is really bad about doing anything to help himself. I know I need to do some more researching and trying different recipes but I get tired of cooking just to hear that he's not eating that or it doesn't taste good, etc. We both need to try harder.

My mom was diagnosed as "pre-diabetic." Her doctor sent her to a dietician, she cleaned up her diet and she's now perfectly fine. Her problems started after my dad died and she wasn't always motivated to cook for just one person. But she's back to healthy meals (with the extra portions put in the freezer). I hope DH embraces this opportunity!
