Long hot dry summer of 2012

Saturday, July 14, 2012

This summer has just been a trial. The drought that they now admit is happening has put Indiana on water restrictions-no watering grass, washing cars, ect. Today was 89-the first time in something like 17 days the high temp has been below 90. We had a streak of 5 or 6 days above 100. I haven't had more than a few drops of rain at my house since mid-May.

The weather has apparently caused me to swell and the swelling is causing my BP to go up. My annual physical was this week, so we are changing the BP meds to see if that helps any. I keep trying to add steps to my walking, but it depends on how bad I feel. Allergies are still pretty bad since we haven't had any rain to cut the dust. I have been staying inside with my feet up as much as possible-and that does help.

A couple of weeks ago on a Friday afternoon at rush hour-we had a wind storm that knocekd out power-especially to the stoplights on the main road. During the ride home, I managed to hit the trailer hitch of the guy in front of me going 5 miles per hour. Bent up my whole front of my CRV (DIdn't hurt his pickup). Took it in for an estimate-hoping it would be below the deductible. They think it will be 1500-3000 dollars. There goes the insurance rates! So now I have to call them on Monday.

This week is a short week-I took Friday off for a genealogy conference here in town. Should be fun to see some old freinds. Also have a bridal shower on Saturday, but I think I will stick with the conference.

Take care and keep cool! Diana

Hi -- I agree about the weather here...same here in Lafayette as well!!! The small town we live in hasn't had any water restrictions yet but no one is watering that I can see. We're watering our container plants....the ones that have lived thru this anyway. This weather has been bothering my asthma.....
Yes I'd love for us to meet sometime....I'd better wait til after this wedding is over (my dd)on August 11.....and before we leave for Boston in Oct for his niece's wedding!! I hate being busy....I like my slow, do as I want, when I want life now...so having to do things makes me sad!! :)) So we'll email sometime to set that up....it'll be fun! I'm thinking late August or September ...whichever works for you since you're the working person!!

Experiencing the same kind of weather in Illinois. No measurable rain at my place since May. Some neighboring towns of had a little. Farmers are really hurting this hear. We had nine consecutive days in the 100's. Luckily the humdity was low.

Last Saturday we had a thunder/lightning storm but no rain. Unfortunately, my neighbors son, who lives in a neighboring town, was struck by lightning and died Thursday. He thought the storm had passed and took the dog out for a walk.

The heat and humidty definitely affect my legs and ankles swelling. I wear compression stockings. It helps alot. I am sorry to hear about your car. Just be thankful no one was hurt, as I know you are. I am in Florida, not where they are getting the devastating rain. We had a rain storm last night and my roof leaked yuck. Dripped on my head in bed. Talk about raindrops falling on your head! Stay cool and I hope your new med helps your BP.

The weather here in Pennsylvania hasn't been a lot better. We haven't reached 100 yet, but it is still early. We had several days of 98 and 99. Heat + humidity = yuck! It rained a little today, but not enough to do much good. We don't have any water restrictions yet.
Try to take it easy and stay cool.
