I joined SparkPeople in February 2012. In about 5 months, I've been really excited, fizzled out, made lots of friends, and check in here a lot more than I blog.

I've been slowly working toward my goal and am not giving up or moving backward.

I've lost a total of 20 pounds (which is slow, but makes a difference) but have a long way to go. It has to be slow for me, otherwise, I'll never keep the changes.

Today, I found a trail near my home and walked. It was so lovely, I love the smells, the sounds, and the beauty of nature. Next time, I'll go earlier in the morning, instead of 10am because it gets hot.

I am recovering from an illness, but have found a job and they are waiting for me to get my license (or whenever I'm ready to start).

Life is delicious, and I'm learning how to be well by taking care of myself, coping with stress in a more healthy way, and taking things one step at a time.

Thanks for everyone who hangs in and supports me, even though I'm not as regular and as QUICK as some others who really motivate. Stick with me: I'll show you that slow and steady can win the race.

    I think I am in a very similar situation as you are. I keep reminding myself that as long as I keep trying I am MAKING PROGRESS. emoticon emoticon

    Read the book "THE SUGAR FIX" by Richard Johnson M.D. as it is so helpful. He has lectures on YouTube that are worth watching.

    Baby steps are the best way and remember you didn't put it on overnight so it's not going to come off overnight either.

    Melissa, each of us have different needs to help us reach our goals. Some people need active, every day involvement and feedback. Others may need that level of activity initially, but then find they want more freedom and ween themselves off SP. other people find all the support they need by "lurking" (I hate that word. It sounds so negative, when it shouldnt be). SP can be time consuming, to say the least. The important thing, which you already realize, is that if you need greater support or just have a question, all you have to do is ask. 20 pounds lost is a significant amount. If you are able to find a way to lose the weight, get healthy, maintain peace and enjoy the process, then you have the key. You may be losing it slowly now, but your way will get you there and keep you there.

    Your walk sounds lovely. I can't wait until it cools off so I can get back outside more.

    Keep going, I recently learned this journey will never stop, it will just take different turns. When you reach your coal weight you will be so happy!
