New way of thinking

So I weighed myself this morning. Didn't expect much since I wasn't "feeling" light. Well I was shocked to learn I lost the weight I gained while gone last weekend. It was only two pounds and normally when I go home (or my parents come here) I gain 5 pounds so I was ok with the 2 pounds. Too much eating out and sitting around visiting.

Anyway at first I couldn't figure out what I did different. Then it hit me. I am making an effort to get exercise in. Oh sure, I would walk outside while the kids were playing, though most of it would be at a two year-old's pace. I would wander the wildlife sanctuary when I got home, though once again not at a high speed. Now I am back walking on my lunch break. I did 1 mile some days and 2 miles other days. I also did my exercise videos 4 times last week. It really makes a difference. Quality not quantity. I apparently burn more calories doing a 30 minute aerobics DVD than walking 2 miles. This doesn't mean I'm not going to walk. On the contrary, I'll walk my mile or 2 on my break and when I get home do a walking video at least three times a week.

I was at the wildlife sanctuary today and saw an ad for the annual Walk for Wildlife. A 2.5 mile walk/hike for a good reason. I think I'm doing it. I wanted to in the past, but came up with excuses. The main one was probably that I had to get up early on a Saturday. Now I think it would be a great opportunity to become familiar with the trails. It's all in your perspective.

    Don't forget that by adding muscle you will burn more calories even when at rest! So don't think that walking isn't doing as much - it is great exercise and will help add mucles in your legs which will help you burn calories from all over.

    I think doing the walk is a great goal! You'll be helping yourself, helping the sanctuary that you enjoy, and you can use the opportunity to meet other people supporting the sanctuary and find some new friends that might be willing to walk with you when your husband doesn't go with you!
