Sparking Again as of 8/24/2012

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

emoticon As I begin to get myself back into shape (again) I thought I would put some preliminary observations down in this blog post.

When I was Sparking daily in 2009/2010, people who know me know that I was a pretty disciplined exerciser and calorie tracker, and I still am.

emoticon Walking:

I just completed my old neighborhood 2 mile walk that I used to do religiously twice a day at a 4 mph pace in 30 minutes...first time I went the complete route since I started walking Saturday. I see that carrying 30 pounds more than I used to along with not being up to speed (no pun intended) with my fitness left me about 3 minutes over my 30 minute walk time. My trusty watch showed that I was walking at 3.6 mph, so that makes sense. All I could think about as I was walking is that it is like carrying a 16 pound bowling ball in each hand walking with this extra weight...no wonder my time and speed are off...but not for long.

emoticon Weighing In:

I was always a once a week weigh in person, but starting out, I usually check my progress daily. I started weighing myself on Saturday at 230, was 229 Sunday, and 228 yesterday. This morning before my walk I was 227.2, and after the walk I was 225.8. Wouldn't it be nice if just by walking 2 miles you could lose a pound! I know that early on, the weight drops quickly if you stay on target, and right now daily weigh ins are a good motivator for me.

emoticon Food Tracking:

I always liked doing this, but does anybody else find that tracking foods religiously seems to make you more preoccupied with food than you were before you started tracking? I need to get over this soon!

emoticon October RV Rally:

I decided when walking this morning that my goal is to have lost at least 10 pounds by our October Columbus Day weekend rally...don't see this to be too difficult.

emoticon SparkFriends:

It sure is nice to come back to an online community and have all the people you used to interact with come right back into your journey, no questions, no judgements. I can't thank all my SparkFriends enough for that. Many I stayed in touch with on Facebook, but many have stayed here on SparkPeople continuing on their journey, and I wish you all the best and thank you for your support.

I'm not much of a blog poster, so this will probably be it for a while..., so be happy & healthy!

headed to AC later today but taking a moment to read some SP friends blogs. Happy to see you back - but it made me realize that you got to goal --------------- I am nearly in exactly the same place I was when we were sparking regularly.....
For me - its not so much a weight change -Once I started SP I lost 6 pounds and now seem ok with maintaining that - always staying in that 133 - 137 range.............. for me its simply not being able to get down below that 130 mark. Im reasonably sure once I get there --------------- I can maintain it since Im maintaining my initial 6 pound weight loss now for almost 2 years. Its more a body composition issue.
When I broke my foot in March ---------------- I had no choice but to sit for nearly 3 months. Didnt eat out of boredom - but didnt exercise either AT ALL --------- and while the scale really didnt move up ------------- the muscle left and the flab came. So now Im talking myself into getting diciplined again............... not listening yet - but honestly seeing your comments and your blogs.............. are kicking my butt to just do it. thanks keep up the good work.

I was so happy to see your smiling face start popping up again!

I had to laugh about the food tracking thing cause YES..although in the beginning it was a very eye opening experience...it does get me fixated on food. But it does have its good points also. I enter my breakfast, lunch and snack for the day in the morning and then I have a sort of guide to how much I can have at dinner.

Congrats on the weight loss os far. I know you are motivated with goals so I have no doubt you WILL get back to where you want to be :)

We're very glad to have you back, Gerry! No judgement because no one wants to be judged. We all struggle and we applaud you for realizing how the extra weight is affecting you and that you want to get it back off. Best of luck and we'll be with you all the way!
