Wrong goal weight????

Tuesday, September 04, 2012

So today at the Healthpark, I talked to a personal trainer about some things. When I mentioned my goal weight is 110 she said that isn't really realistic since I am so restricted with the exercises that I can do.
What do you all think? I weighed 107 most of my adult life until about 13 yrs ago when started on fibromyaliga meds and had a hysterectomy. Of course, back then I didn't work out so there was no muscle and hopefully soon I will have some.
I really need help knowing what to do so any input would be helpful.
Thanks!

Karen

I agree that it is more about how you look and feel than a number.

I was between 104 and 112 for many years. Not only did I look skinney, I didn't think I even looked good. I looked and felt my very best at 135. The 'ideal' weight has to be where we look and feel good. Don't concentrate on small numbers.

110 maybe to low for you at this stage in your life. I think you need to talk to your doctor and ask what they think is the ideal weight for you at this time. I agree with Slundquis and NancyPat1, get down to 120-125 and see how you feel and how healthy your doctor thinks you are. You should be a team working on the final weight. Congrats on losing what you have and working with your PT's with your back issues. emoticon emoticon emoticon

There is nothing wrong with 110, but you might want to think about 10-15 lbs more and maintain for a year and see how you feel, then decide if you want more off. The choice ultimately is yours, but there is no hurry to get to your goal is there? At 10-15 more you will still be healthy.

I don't know what you can realistically expect, but your trainer may be right. Often as we get older, experience health challenges, and so forth, the weight that is healthy for our bodies may change. I would not rule OUT the weight you want, but I would also not automatically rule out a different weight. Sometimes our bodies answer the question for us by reaching a certain weight and refusing to budge no matter what we do. How far are you from 110? Have you stopped losing? Those are some questions I would want answered before settling for a different number.
