I lifted heavy things

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Today was my off day from classes, so I studied my azz of for Anatomy, did the laundry, and during the dry cycle I finally made use of my YMCA membership AND WENT TO THE GYM TO LIFT WEIGHTS! I know I should, but I never do. My new schedule is giving me some structure (is it weird that I'm getting far more done now that I have a schedule and obligations than I was when my schedule was wide open?) and I figured it's as good a time as any to build some muscle. I also started the Primal Blueprint 21 day challenge yesterday, and part of that is lifting weights, so there you go.

I signed up for the (free!) Tour de Bronx on Oct. 14. In the past they've closed the streets for this one, but NYC has been charging huge amounts for street closings this year, so I'm not sure if that's happening, but at least I wouldn't have paid a ton of money! Other than that, the only thing I have coming up is the 5th Avenue Mile in 2 weeks. I also signed up for the Spark 5k the week of Oct 28th - hopefully it'll motivate me to get more run miles in and do a little speedwork. I'm looking for an actual 5k to do for motivation, but I have one criteria - it needs to be flat(ter than the Percy Sutton 5k). Any suggestions?

I hope the Tour de Bronx goes better for you than the last organized ride. At least it's free. That's almost unheard of around my neck of the woods.

You need a little bit of "Climbing" in all your runs. BTW, I'm originally from the Bronx and currently live in Texas. I have the New York 100-miler on my bucket list. Perhaps next year.

Hey, I noticed the title of your blog entry, and then I see mention of the 5th Avenue Mile race. I did that two years ago! Lots of fun. And short, lol.

Which part of the NY area are you based? I'm originally from the Bronx, but I currently live overseas. Wish I could give you a tip on the 5K question, but the last race I did in New York was... the 5th Avenue Mile in 2010. ;-)

Free is good. So is flat... or at least less hilly. I tend to skip workouts at the gym as I get busier. I wish it was the other way around. I hope you find a 5k!

I like Mark Sisson, too. I've got too much on my plate to try the 21 day challenge. Go for it! emoticon
