All this has got to be good for SOMETHING

One of the few good things about being unemployed is that I can no longer use "no time" as an excuse not to exercise. For the past three days, I have hit the treadmill as soon as I get out of bed. I am not a morning person, so when I have a job that starts at 8a it is difficult for me to manage exercise before I go to work. After I exercise, moving my body to get cleaned up and dressed is not a quick process. Remember the Tin Man from "The Wizard of Oz" when he needed oil? That's me after 30 minutes on the treadmill -- stiff and creaky!

Speaking of how I feel after exercise, I am still going on faith that working out is going to do me any good. I have seen how it has helped other people, like my husband and his cousin. However, in all my years of trying to develop the fitness habit, I have never been able to push through that initial feeling of being sore and tired all the time. For instance, my motivation to start exercising again this week was the swelling in my feet and ankles that started on our drive to Miami last week and stayed with during our entire vacation. By the time we got home on Monday, it had gotten to the point where it hurt to touch the tops of my feet and there was pain halfway up my calves. I had read that improved circulation would help the swelling go down, so I started walking every morning. My feet are slowly getting back to normal and the original pain is gone, but now I have pain in different parts of my legs and ankles. All I seem to do with exercise is trade one pain for another.
