Almost a year ago I started lifting weights with a personal trainer. Before the trainer, I used to grab the 5-8 pound weights, now in my group sessions I lift dumbells anywhere from 15 to 25 pounds. Well, sometimes she has to spot me if I use 25 pounders (help me get them above my head and then I bring them down myself).
Apart from losing weight or whatever, weight lifting is important as we age because it builds muscles that protect us in falls. It also helps with balance and the core so that you are less prone to falling in the first place.
Since lifting weights my posture has improved enormously, my core is so strong that I can now do situps and lifting grocery bags or other things is easy peasy lemon squeezy. If feels good to be a woman who is strong or at least stronger than she was.
