Yesterday, I had a surprise spending splurge. I bought a much dreamed about pencil skirt (thank you Clinton Kelly and Stacey London for that inspiration). I have a good friend who works at a lovely high end store called Eileen Fisher. I find that their clothes are really elegant and fit very well. I can't afford very much there so I usually wait for a sale. The had $25.00 off yesterday - really in that store it's like a grain of sand on the Sahara.
By habit I grabbed a size extra large. My friend pulled it out of my hand and said "You will swim in that!" No, I assured her that was my size. She then brought me a medium and after I tried it on said, "You need the small!" I looked at her doubtfully and thought, well if she likes the look of a sausage bursting out of its too small casing than fine with me! Lo, and behold the small fit me to a tee. Yes, I did preen and prance about the changing room when no eyes were upon me. Let's hope they don't have security cameras placed in the changing room!
After embracing my "little skirt" I went home and pulled old "big skirt" out of the closet. Large, drapy, pulled out of shape elastic waist, polyester "big skirt" you have been with me through thick and even thicker. You were so forgiving well very, very, giving especially at the waistband. I haven't the heart to give you the heave ho "big skirt". So, I will fold you with love and care before tossing you into a drawer. You were fun while it lasted but I moved on now to my "little skirt". I changed but you remain the same.
